One Week Later
Clarke had gotten out of the rope fairly easily after they left. But that was about all she got out of for the rest of the week. She couldn't wrap her mind around it, around the selfishness, around the betrayal.
They locked her up here. While her mom was out there.
Alone.
Clarke growled and pounded her fists against the hatch, "You can't keep me up here forever! You need me and we both know it!" she panted, "LET ME OUT!"
There was no response.
"Typical," she muttered to herself
Clarke slid to the floor, sighing. She was so mad, so frustrated; and it wasn't at the campers, or Harper, or Miller, or Monty-no, none of them. She mad mad at him. At Bellamy.
God, if she ever got outta of this, she would ring his neck and throw him in the river for the Grounders to find.
--
Clarke finally gave up and her angry slowly dwindled away. She brought out a crumpled note and read it out loud:
"Clarke,
I know I cannot possible explain what I did to you nor can I ask for your forgiveness. I know I left you with only questions and I know I wasn't always the best mother. I know that you'll probably never find this.
But if you do.
I'm sorry. I'm sorry for Dad, for Lily, for Earth. I'm so sorry for everything and I just want to say that I love you. I love you so, so much Clarke, my baby girl, I love you. And don't you ever think anything else. It's okay for you to hate me, I'd hate me too, but-
I'm dying Clarke, and I know I'm selfish for saying this but, I need your help.
Please, I'm begging you, find me Clarke, find me before I die. I need to see you face, to kiss your cheek, to touch your hair one last time...
From the bottom of my heart,
Your mother"
The tears streamed down Clarke face as she brought the note down to her lips, she kissed the words, her lips trembling.
"I love you too mom, I love you too," she sobbed curling into a ball, the note pressed against her heart.
Clarke rocked back and forth, her sobs shuddering through her body, "I love you mom, I forgive you, I don't hate you-" her voice hitched and she sobbed harder
She banged on the hatch, "Bellamy," she cried, "I know you can hear me, please, please, let me out!" she bit her lip as her tears burned her cheeks, "Let me out, I need to find her, I need to find her..."
Clarke let out a strangled whine, and her sorrow turned to rage once more, "BELLAMY FOR THE LIFE OF YOU, OPEN THIS DAMN DOOR OR I SWEAR TO GOD-" something banged on the other side
Clarke shut up and listened, wiping her tears on her sleeves, "Hello?"
There was no answer but she heard rapid whispering through the hatch.
She rolled her eyes, "Oh, come on, you know I can hear you, right?"
The whispering ceased, and Clarke scooted closer to the hatch, "Let's make a compromise. Just-I just wanna talk," she strained her ears to hear, "Please, that's all I want."
She heard someone arguing down below, a girl. Someone banged on the walls again and Clarke jumped.
"Uh, guys?"
The voices rose and evolved into outright shouts; she just prayed they were in her favor.
The girl argued some more and finally Clarke heard a deafening crack.
She yelped, sliding back another foot, "WHat the hell?"
Someone was clamoring up the ladder and Clarke's heart jumped into her throat. That someone was heavy, their climbing jolted the hatch and rattled her chair.
Shit. Shitshitshitshit
Grounder.
Clarke stifled a cry and ran to the window, she hastily threw her jacket over it, shrouding the room in darkness. She snatched up her chair and ran, as quietly as she could, to stand behind the hatch. Her breathing was labored as the footsteps came nearer and she bit her lip to calm herself.
Breathe, Clarke. Breathe
She tightened her grip on the legs of the chair as she heard the lock click.
Breathe.
The hatch flew open.
She swung.
