Ch. 11
I was led to the elevator that would take me to the entrance chamber to the arena. My stylists had wanted to take me but I firmly refused. I stepped quietly into the room. It was like a janitor's room. A plastic chair and a plastic table with a plastic cup and plastic plate with some food. There was also a closet. I walked over to it and pulled open the doors. I raised my eyebrows. It was a snow suit. Mottled grey and white it would blend in well with the snow. I was happy. D10 was up north and got a lot of snow. Ben and I would have an advantage over some of the other tributes from 11 or 9 who had spent their whole lives in sunny hot weather. I pulled it on over the clothes I had been given this morning. A black T-shirt and sweatpants. It was snug and allowed for unhindered movement. I pulled the boots on over my socks and laced them up. They had good treads and were lined with some type of soft fur. I decided to wait until right before I got in the tube until putting on the gloves, hat, or goggles. I sat at the table and ate a slice of thick bread and drank some water. I was anxious to get in the arena. Not to die... But anything is better then just sitting here. I almost dozed off but was jerked into awareness by a voice. "Thirty seconds." I grabbed my hat and pulled it on. My goggles went on next. They were tinted to take the glare off the snow. Finally I pulled on my gloves. The whole outfit allowed a lot of movement and I felt pretty good. "Twenty seconds." I walked into the tube. I looked up the clear cylinder but all I could see was darkness. "Ten seconds." the door slid shut and without a jerk the tube slid upwards.
