I looked at my watch and saw it was almost time for potions. When I got to the dining hall, I saw Gio siting at a table alone, eating mac and cheese. I decided to sit with him,
"Hi," I said. He looked up and realized it was me.
"Hey," he said with a smile.
"So, I was told I'm supposed to show you around.." I said while fidgeting with my fingers.
"That's good news," he said and smiled nervously.
"Yeah, I guess." I smiled.
Everybody started getting up and heading to their classes. Mack, Keith, and Harper came up to us.
"Hey, you coming?" Mack asked. Looking at Gio and I.
"No. I have to show Gio around. I'm free from potions," I said. Keith was eyeing him. Harper saw him, so she stepped on his foot on purpose so he would stop.
"Oh I'm sorry. I didn't see where I was going!" She giggled. But we all knew it was fake.
"I'll see you later, Ava!" Keith said while putting his bag across his shoulder.
"See you." I smiled and he started to walk away.
"Oh, uh Gio, this is my best friend, Mack," I introduced.
"Hi, nice to meet you!" Mack said, smiling.
"Same here," he stood up and shook hands with her. He reached for his bag and when he wasn't looking, Mack gave a smirk and nodded to me.
"Anyways, have to go. Bye!" Mack said, waving goodbye and quickly walked away.
I stood up and was about to grab my bag, but Gio already picked it up and gave it to me.
"Thanks," I smiled. Sweet and a gentleman, I thought.
"No problem," he replied and we started to walk out of the dining hall.
"So, let's start with your house room. What house are you in?" I asked.
"Pukwudgie," he said as we turned a corner.
"I am too! The house room is on the 4th floor." We walked into the Pukwudgie room. There was a white couch in the middle of the room, in front of it was a fireplace. Huge windows with the view of the green mountains, and big bookcases filled with wizard fiction and poetry.
"Here it is!" I said as I plumped down on the couch.
"Nice. I especially like the view," he said, looking at me and smirking.
"Uh, are you flirting with me?" I asked, raising my eyebrows.
"Maybe.." he walked closer. This is just too corny and cringy, I thought.
"Smooth, but uh, I'm not looking to be in a relationship right now. So.." I trailed off.
"No problem. Let me know if you change your mind. Where to next?" He said, trying to play it off.
"Uh, the infirmary!" I said and stood up from the couch.
While we were walking to the infirmary, he suggested we ask each other questions so we can get to know each other a little better.
"Favorite animal?" I asked.
"Alpacas,"
"Why?" I asked amused.
"I love how bushy they are and their long necks," he said chuckling.
We both laughed and it echoed throughout the halls. We passed the potions classroom and Keith came out.
"Hey!" Keith said as he ran into us.
"Hey," Gio and I said in unison.
"You're missing on some awesome potion making in there. Trueheart is teaching us how to make a potion that can change our voices," Keith explained looking at only me and ignoring Gio.
"Nice! Bet Lance will use that one!" I said laughing and giving him a high five and Keith laughed also, "I was just going to show Gio the infirmary,"
"Ah. Spend most of my time in there," Keith finally acknowledging Gio. He had a confused look on his face.
"He's the captain of his qudditch team," I explained to Gio.
"Oh, maybe you can show me some pointers later," Gio suggested.
"Yea, sure," Keith said, pursing his lips.
Everyone started getting out of their classes.
"Oh, well the infirmary is right there to the right," I pointed behind Keith, "What class do you have next?" I asked Gio."Care of magical creatures." Gio said, looking at a paper filled with his class schedule.
"Oh, we have charms. Your class is right outside and you can follow the rest of the students," I said, looking at a group of students exiting the castle.
"Catch you later," Gio said, lazily saluting and walking away.
"Let's find the rest," Keith said to me and we started walking to find Mack, Isabelle, and Lance.
When we finally found them, we went to charms and took our seats, I sat next to Keith, Mack and Lance sat in front of us, and Isabelle at the table next to me.
The professor told us to practice the freezing charm. Professor Baldon gave us a glass of water to freeze and unfreeze continuously.
"Have you heard the news?" Lance asked us, turning around.
"What news?" Isabelle said and looking up from her frozen glass.
"People are saying that the headmaster is going to have a competition to find the horned serpent!" Lance said excitingly. "And they're going to make groups. Lucky us we have all we need with, Isabelle's knowledge, Mack's risk, Ava's bossiness, and 2 strong guys. We're a perfect team." He explained.
"Well said," Keith said as they fist bumped each other. We started laughing at after a few seconds, we got shushed by professor Baldon.
"Yea, we should sign up. I mean, why not? It'll be fun! Is there a prize?" I whispered to Lance.
He shrugged, "No idea. But the competition lasts 4 weeks. Have to survive by using magic. No help from professors. Dangerous stuff in the forest." Lance said, finally freezing his water.
"That seems, fun" Mack said sarcastically and rolled her eyes.
"I know right!" Lance said, not recognizing Mack's sarcasm.
