Chap 17- Searching

As Sonic pulled me along the peaks of the mountains, Knuckles guided the way to Angel Island. I was literally flying through the air as I held tightly onto Sonic's gloved hand. Hopefully I wasn't too heavy for him.

We finally reached Angel Island after leaving the crime scene at the museum 45 seconds ago. There's a benifit to traveling at the speed of sound. Wow.....Angel Island is a beauty. I looked around and realized I was alone. Oh great, that helps a lot. Where did they go?

"Sonic? Knuckles?" I called out.

Suddenly, a rope dropped from the Island and above appeared a red and blue figure.

"Climb up!" Sonic yelled out. I jogged over and started climbing up the rope ladder. It was difficult due to the fact that it wasn't tied down. Once I reached the top, Sonic and Knuckles grabbed my wrists and pulled me up.

"Alright, Knuckles, go looked towards the South. Ivy, look around here. I'll look in the East and West area," Sonic instructed.

"Since when are you leader?" Knuckles asked meanly.

"Just start searching," Sonic answered while running to his post. Knuckles ran off to his post as I stood where I was.

I looked around. Man it was beautiful here. I was so lucky to stand where the Master Emerald lived. As I stood there in awe, I realized I should be looking for Rouge. I started to stride into the woods. Once I was in there for 10 minutes, I realized that I was completely lost. Oh great, on a floating island and I was lost. This...sucks. I closed my eyes and when I opened them, I wound up at a temple. I climbed the stairs and realized that it was the temple if the Master Emerald. Where it was supposed to lay was nothing, not a trace of it nor Rouge. I sat upon the pedestal and rested my hand in my palm. Sigh...now if I was a jewel stealing bat where would I be? This didn't help at all.

I heard my name sound in the distance.

"Over here, guys!" I yelled loudly.

"Where?" I heard Sonic yell.

"In the Master Emerald's temple!" I responded.

Sonic and Knuckles jogged up the stairs.

"Any luck?" I asked.

"None," Knuckles replied.

"Nothin' here" Sonic added.

I sighed and rested my head in my palm for the second time.

"Let's just face it. The Emerald isn't here," Sonic said.

"Since when are you so negative?" Knuckles asked.

"Hold on," I started. "If the Master Emerald isn't here, then how is the island still floating?" I asked.

"She's got a point," Knuckles agreed.

"And you forgot that fact how?" Sonic asked.

No answer.

"Rouge has to be here. No other way. Unless she left it here, which is unlikely" I explained.

"So where do we start looking?" asked Sonic.

Knuckles eyed him perpetually.

"Well....I really have no clue," I stated. No help from me.

"Let's just all search together," Knuckles commanded.

We strode off the temple and started walking South West. It has been an hour since we started looking, and there was no sign of the Master Emerald. Luckily my mom worked until 7 tonight so we had a bit of time until we had to go home.

As I looked around up in the trees, I didn't notice a tree stump. I tripped and fell right smack dab on my face.

"Ivy! Are you okay?" Sonic asked, helping me up.

"Ya. I'm fine," I said, rubbing my nose.

"Guys, look. It seems to be an entrance to an underground cave," Knuckles pointed out. The stump was now on its side showing a hinge connected to the ground. Knuckles jumped in, followed by Sonic then me. It was dark, but luckily Sonic and Knuckles can see well in the dark. They stopped suddenly and I almost ran into Sonic.

"Fork in the road," Sonic said. "I'll head West. Knuckles, go East. Ivy, go straight." he instructed.

"Is it really a good idea for Ivy to go alone?" Knuckles asked worriedly.

"She can handle it," Sonic answered, heading into the left tunnel. Knuckles jogged into the right and I was left alone.

Um, Sonic, I don't think I CAN handle this, I told myself quietly.

I walked into the front tunnel in complete darkness. How will I see where I'm going? I thought to myself.
