A light beam was shot, missing me by inches as I swerved out of the way. Only then did I realise it wasn't meant  for me, but for Dennis. I looked over at Elinor, who was crouched beside her brother, who at the moment, needed consoling.

Dennis' grip on the blade slipped and it fell, as he stumbled backwards, the tip nicking my foot. He was thrown back and as he landed caused a tsunami of leaves and debris to erupt. Elinor then recalled her Resplendent orb and Marcus slumped to the ground. I jogged over to the trio, glancing back at Dennis once to make sure he was out cold.

I helped him sit up and once he was comfortable, I turned to face the duo.

"Thank you," Elinor said, much to my surprise.

Not knowing what to say, I just nodded, giving her a small smile.

Russel's eyes suddenly widened and he let out a yell, scrambling to his feet, standing before Elinor just as something was shot at him. He fell to the ground, Elinor watching in shock as his eyes lost their emotions and life.

Dennis was breathing heavily and then everything happened in slow motion. Elinor let out a strangled yell, throwing her own beams at Dennis, but at this time, other Resplendent had appeared and were fighting back. Dennis disappeared amongst them with a smirk.

I strengthened my own shield and the one I'd placed around Marcus as Elinor released a spiral of beams, so bright that I had to look away.

"Go after him!" She yelled at me and I nodded, running around the Resplendent as she fought to hold them off.

As I ran towards where Dennis had headed, the noise had considerably quietened, until the only sound that could be heard were the crunching and snapping of twigs under my feet and my heavy, laboured breathing.

As I tried to control it, I stopped, looking around, attempting to sense a trace. I froze as I felt multiple deaths behind me, due to both beams and shards.

Marcus and Elinor.

My head snapped to my right as I saw movement from the corner of my eye. Dennis stepped out of the shadows.

"Well hello again." He murmured, sending shivers down my spine, yet I held my ground.

"Let Kit go," I commanded with as much willpower as I could muster up.

His laugh echoed off the trees, causing a murder to scatter into the dark sky.

"It's not Kit whom we want, Princess," I flinched at his choice of endearment. It seemed anything but.

"It's you." With that, he threw a beam towards me.

My reflexes were heightened. I stepped out of the way, my shadows building up to form a disembodied hand which caught the beam, crushing it until there was only darkness. I took my time, walking over to Dennis, his attempts futile as my shields absorbed the beams, throwing back shadow shards.

"It's over, Dennis."

"I'm not about to die by the hand of some filthy Necromancer." He snarled, his eyes rolling back into his head. When they re-emerged, they were a dark purple and his hair had turned from a dark brown, to a copper red.

He was going into Resplendence. The Resplendent had a transformation when they went into Resplendence, each unique to each individual.

Behind him, an army rose, entirely made of light. They awaited his instructions and upon them, came charging at us.

Creating a shadow barrier consisting of many layers, I gave the command and the first layer erupted, shards impaling the first row of the army. The second layer then erupted too, taking out the second layer.
