Emily's POV
I watched the new teacher walk up to the stage. She had an intelligent look in her eyes and carried herself quite confidently, but not proudly. Hmm... Looks argumentative as well. Like she's firm in her views. Debater, maybe? Well, YOU should know. You've been a debater before. I leaned forward curiously. "Hi, I'm Ms Diane... I have a cousin in this school, hi Eren!" Eren, from my class, raised a hand a little sheepishly.
She was slightly taller than me (which wasn't saying a lot) and wore an Ancient Greek-style chiton, but instead of it being long and white, it was slightly above the knee and dark blue. "I'm teaching English and the debate club... I'm a debater," she added, laughing slightly. "So I wish that we have a great time together." Steinfield smiled, a little sickly. Obviously doesn't want another argumentative person. Hah, this is going to be interesting...
She got offstage to the round of applause and I couldn't help not noticing Louis smile slightly. Oh, Louis is a debater, I remember. He's in the national team, right? Yeah, that's why he's always flying off to other countries to participate in a debate or judge it! And you stalked him on Instagram, right... Did NOT! I asked Matthew. Sure you did. I watched as Ms Diane walked towards 9R, presumably to see Eren. To my surprise, she headed for me instead.
Diane's POV
I smiled at Eren as I passed him by. Oh, 9R's teacher is there. I went up to her. "Hi, you're..." I fumbled around mentally for her name. "Ms Fox, right? Well, I heard from Mr Steinfield that you used to be a debater?" I managed to ask. "Well, yes, I was a debater," she answered a little uncertainly. "Umm, so I'd like to ask you if you'd be willing to help out in the debate club?" I tried. She blinked a few times, before shrugging and opening her mouth to speak.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I'm really busy, because I'm a HOD, so... You could ask Mr Pomeroy, or Louis. He's a national debater. He's that guy over there, the one with black hair? The one talking with that student over there," Ms Fox replied, pointing out said debater. I turned around and looked him over. He had an earnest, kind face and was talking animatedly with the pupil. "Oh, alright, thank you!" She gave me a small smile. "If I have time, I'll help out with the debate club, and no problem!"
I waved goodbye and went over to Mr Pomeroy. This is weird. I'm asking random teachers for help in the debate club. Well, at least this guy looks pretty intelligent. Has the air of a debater too. He could be of use... He noticed me and quickly ended the conversation. Polite too. "Hi, I'm Diane Simmons, but you can call me Diane, I heard from your friend Ms Fox that you could help me in the debate club?" I watched him as he stumbled around for an answer patiently.
Louis' POV
I was taken aback. "Umm, sure!" I agreed, a little confused. "You're a national debater, right?" she suddenly asked. "Y-Yes, I am? And you can call me Louis..." I was still in a state of slight shock. Why is did Emily direct her to me? I mean, yeah, I can be of help but why- I broke off my thought process when I saw Emily smirking at me. Wait, what? "Oh, okay, thanks! What subject do you teach?" That was a fast transition. Is she ADHD, or something? No, she's going in a controlled direction...
"F-French," I replied. She looked a little puzzled. "You don't have much of a French accent," she noted. "Well, I was born in France, but I moved here when I was ten. So I learnt English but continued my French," I explained, getting used to her directness. "Ah. Well, the debate club is... every Saturday, nine to twelve, on level six," she added. I felt a smile tug involuntarily at my lips. "You've been accustomed to the ways of this school?" "I did my research. You should know debaters do that."
With a wink, she walked off, leaving me alone at the side of the hall (figuratively. There were five hundred odd kids in that room!). To pass the time, I flicked open my phone cover and turned said phone on. Hmm, so many messages. Oh well... So today, I have to give out the French essays, then go through the PREVIOUS essay. Satisfied with the quick plan, I concentrated on the WhatsApp messages flooding my phone...
Matthew's POV
I had witnessed the entire exchange between Louis and the new teacher. Ooh, a new pairing is in process! Matthew, stop sticking your nose in other people's love life. Yours is already nonexistent. You're really cynical, you know. It's not nice. I'm not here to be nice. I decided to ignore my inner voices and continued drifting slowly into the fantasy of a debating coup- Wait. If they DO get together, there's bound to be fights. Like twice an hour. But that's okay! It's part and parcel of a relationship, right?
No. But they WILL argue. They're debaters. So leave them be. But they're PERFECT for each other... The dry voice promptly gave up and left me alone. I mean, she WINKED at him. It's obvious! Love at first sight is legit! Hello? Aren't you going to correct me? HELLO? No objections. But the arrival of Emily interrupted my thoughts. "Matthew, you've been called by the principal along with all the other Biology teachers. Staff training room." I
I rolled my eyes. "Thanks." She snorted. "You'd know if you actually came into the hall," she said sarcastically. "Nah, the fresh air is better," I declared, before jumping up and racing off. NOW what does he want? Ugh. What a waste of time... Might as well get over with it! Relax, Harper. I can't. I think I'll quit SCH in the autumn. No, you won't. Too many people are stopping you: 9R, 8L, 4R, Emily, Arthur, Jeremy, Amelia- Okay, okay, I get the point. Sheesh.
A/N: And hooray, a new ship is introduced. Have a nice day!
