A/N: I'm sick... so I'm writing this.

Emily's POV

"Urgh..." My voice came out as a husky rasp when I sat up. My throat was tingling with pain and I had a rattling cough. I was definitely sick. "Urgh," I moaned again, coughing and stumbling into the bathroom. I need to stay at home... but 9R has exams in a week! I need to teach them and go through corrections! But I'm feeling so miserable... Darn it, throat! Why does it hurt so much?

I gargled with salt water but it didn't help much. Should I take leave for a day? I'm really sick... I need to take medicine... I slowly reached out for my phone and texted Matthew:

You: Matthew, I'm sick...

Matthew Harper: Are you okay? Do you have any fever?

You: No, just a cough... Tell Steinfield I'll be taking leave.

Matthew Harper: Okay, have a good rest and drink warm water...

You: Thanks...

I flopped back onto my bed with a groan. I'm so helpless, this sucks... At least I can sleep in for a little while. That would be so nice... I rolled back under the covers but before sinking into sleep, I noted the time. 6.15 am? Matthew's awake so early? I wonder why... Yet I couldn't form a coherent thought and I sunk into the glorious, wonderful realm of Hypnos... Sleep, sleep, sleep, sleep...

Matthew's POV

I sighed and hardened my resolve. Now or never. I walked up to Alexander Steinfield stiffly, then announced, "Emily is sick, so she's not coming." Idiotic moronic principal. Blockheaded, stubborn and dumb. I HATE this idiot. Stupid. Disgusting. Pompous. I bit back a sharp remark and turned away without waiting for a reply.

It was soon time for biology class with 9R, so I hurried to the classroom. "Class stand!" Tatiana Whitstone called out. "Good morning, Mr Harper!" 9R greeted energetically. And now, it's a new day at 9R! Today, we shall... Oh wait, I'm looking stupid standing here. Bag down on the table... And come back in front. Yeah. "Today, we're going to observe cells under the microscopes in the Science Lab!"

There was an excited murmur rippling through the class. I smiled a little. They love going to the Lab, huh. I waved my arms and pointed outside. "Okay, go line up..."

Matthew's POV

"And there goes the bell. Y'all can go for lunch now!" I called out cheerfully, packing up. This is a good class. I'm surprised at their knowledge... I think this year will be great... But it's already almost half over, and so far, it's been great! The students filed out of the laboratory and soon, I was the only one left, washing my hands and cleaning up all the remnants of the class.

I walked out of the room, feeling a little weary and I was hungry (as usual). I went into the cafeteria and bought a sandwich, then walked up the stairs and into the Staff Room. Silver Creek High has too many staircases. And secret passages and everything. But everything is cool... EXCEPT THE PRINCIPAL stupid Steinfield! I will KILL him one day. I'm sure of that.

I flopped into my chair. The day was boring without Emily. No one else tolerates my pranks... I'm BORED and I don't want to mark worksheets... EVERYTHING IS BORING. Urgh, fine, I'll mark... I chomped down the sandwich while ticking and crossing in a flurry of paper and black ink. Wow, this mistake is terribly careless. Zero marks... Wow, this answer is better than the answer key...

Emily's POV

I groaned and blinked the sleep out of my eyes. I cleared my throat, but my voice was still terrible. I had already taken my first round of meds, time to take another... I fumbled my way into the kitchen and found some slices of bread. I sighed. Is this all? I spread some butter on them and shuffled back into my room, toting them on a plate. I wonder how 9R is doing without me...

After taking the next dose, I sat down at my table firmly and took out the essays I had not had the leisure to mark. Just get it over with... At least 9R has SOME good writers... It's 1pm? Oh wow, I was out for five hours... Urgh, my clothes are all crumpled. No, focus on the essay, darn it! Where was I? Oh, this line. 'I ran down the path...' Come on, there's an overuse of the word 'ran'! There's so many alternatives... I think I'll go back to sleep...

Matthew's POV

"Where's Emily? Is she on course?" Jenna asked. "Nope, she's sick with cough," I replied, crossing one leg over the other and lolling back in the swivel chair. "Oh dear. Is she okay?" she asked worriedly. "Well, I don't know, Emily didn't tell me..." I shrugged. "Oh, my GOD, Matthew! You should have ASKED. Seriously, guys are way too dense..." Jenna complained good-naturedly. "Fine, I'm texting her...."

You: Hey, are you okay now?

Emily Fox: Yeah, thanks :)

You: Are you coming back tomorrow?

Emily Fox: Yeah, I guess. See you!

I looked up at Jenna. "Here." I held up the phone in her face. She took a step back and contemplated the messages. "Okay, THAT'S better!" she declared. I sighed and turned back to my work. So... Tired... Sleeeeeeeeeep... I'm bored... I don't LIKE marking forty-three scripts! But I have to... Blergh, I'm marking, I'm marking! I like teaching but not the marking...

I quickly flew through half the stack... and found out that I had a class in two minutes. OH NO! I raced out of the Staff Room (cursed Steinfield! HAD to give me a table far from the entrance!) and up the stairs, figuring that the lift would be too slow. Just one more level up! I raced up the last few steps, taking two at a time, then bolted down the corridor and into the classroom.

My students (only eleven years old) stared up at me. "Good morning, 8L," I panted, trying to control my breathing. I made it...

A/N: This chapter is SHODDY, SLOPPY work. Ugh. Sorry... BUT HOORAY! Made it to 1K! Love y'all... HUGS~
