Chapter 19

It seemed like we were driving for hours. After quite a few hours we stopped on the side of a sketchy looking road and Sebastian blindfolded me. “Security precautions” he had said. As if I had any hope of getting away from him now that Sam was…

I hadn’t been able to face the truth yet. Saying it aloud, or even thinking it, made it that much more real. Every minute of the time I spent in the car, I kept gazing out the window, through my blindfold of course, wishing with every fiber of my being that Sam would suddenly appear on the road, ready to save me.

Halfway through out journey, we had stopped at some sketchy inn, where Sebastian made me sleep in his arms for fear that I might try to escape. He kept me blindfolded the entire time. After what seemed like the third day on the road, the days began to blur together. I wasn’t sure whether we had been in the car for a week or two. All the days seemed like night time from behind a black mask, and no one, nor nothing, ever came to save me.

When we stopped moving, I thought it was a miracle. If only I had known what awaited me, I would have wished to keep driving.

Sebastian pulled me out of the car roughly, yanked off the blindfold and twisted my body around to see a small dilapidated house nestled into the most peaceful area of forest I had ever seen.

Sebastian breathed down my cold, clammy neck. “Welcome to your new home Nia.”

Five months later

Hurrying to get dressed, I knew that I had no time to spare. If Sebastian knew what I had been doing, I would definitely be punished, and all those aiding me. Rather, those rare few aiding me.

I tied on the white ruffled apron around my short tight black dress, and my small white cap on the top of my head. This French maids outfit was really starting to get on my nerves. None of the men ever kept their hands off my butt, and I was always looked at like I’m a piece of meat.

Slipping on my small black heels I ran into the hallway and stood rigid, with my head up and my hands behind my back. I could hear that they were already beginning roll call. With my back still straight, I closed the door to my room behind me as quietly as I could muster. Luckily, the men were being too loud to hear the small click of the knob.

“Where were you?” Anna glared down at me, hissing in my ear. She was always getting on me about not being in the right place at the right time, but I usually ignored her. She had no idea what it was like for me.

“Don’t worry about it, I’m here now.”

After Sebastian had brought me here five months ago, I soon realized that he hadn’t taken us away on vacation.

Flashback

“Welcome to your new home Nia.” Sebastian breathed down my neck. I could feel my heart beating a hundred miles a minute.

His hand dug into the already painful cute from days prior, as he dragged me next to him into the house.

Once we entered, there was a staircase leading up and down. The one leading up showed a tiny hallway with many rooms squished next to each other. It looked almost as if someone had shoved some extra rooms in next to those that were already there to make room for many unimportant people.

The staircase leading down was the one that Sebastian pulled me down. It led to a dark tunnel that seemed to stretch on forever.

When the tunnel finally opened into a bright, circular room, I took in the dome like shape to this room, and the many doors that filled up the walls. I wondered where they all led to, then noticed that we were not alone. Not sure when any other people had joined us, I saw at least five people walk out of the tunnel after us. I shuddered at the thought that I hadn’t even known that these people were behind me.
