Exploring was one of my favorite things to do. Especially with a friend by your side, it's always more fun. Nate and I searched around the area to see if we could find any way out. I started feeling a little claustrophobic. Neither one of us had our phones, but I'm guessing we've been down here for about a good 3 hours or so. I was starting to lose hope.
"Do you think they'll find us?" I asked, staring blankly at the waterfall.
"Yeah, of course." He answered with hopefulness in his tone. I just nodded, unsure whether to believe him or not. It grew silent, but a comfortable one. My eyes moved to Nathan, who was playing with his fingers.
"So, um. Colin never really told me about your family problems back home. I've always wondered why you're always at our house?" I brought up. He cleared his throat uncomfortably.
"I'll tell you when I'm ready." Was all he said. I understood where he was coming from. I too, had family problems. With my dad leaving Colin, my mom and I, and my mom never being there for us. Life is hard, you know? You don't always get everything you want in life. You have to work hard to achieve that.
You also don't get everything you wish for. All I ever wish for is for loving and supportive parents. Ones I know I can depend on. Ones who help me through my ups and downs in life. I never knew the feeling of being loved by a mom and a dad. All the love I get is from my best friends and Colin. My aunts, uncles, and cousins were never around to check in on me. They each had their own lives, and their own children to care for. A while back, before I became well known, I was diagnosed with depression. It gotten to the point where it was so bad, that I was bed ridden. I never left my bed for 2 months at a time. People who don't know me, look at me and think 'Wow that girl must have the most perfect life.' But no, I don't. Nobody has the most perfect life. Everybody is hurt and pained in some way, they just don't show it. A fake smile can look so believable, you wouldn't suspect anything is wrong with them.
"Luna?" A male voice spoke, breaking me out of my thoughts. I shook my head, getting the sad thoughts out of my system.
"Yeah?"
"Stop drowning yourself in your own thoughts. Its scaring me."
"Sorry."
Nighttime rolled around, and still no sign of help. We had to make due with anything we had. We had found a little caving behind the waterfall when we were looking around. That's where we were sleeping tonight.
My leg was not in pain anymore but I feared that maybe the snake was venomous. I had taken Nate's flannel off the wound, and used it as a blanket. It was pretty warm, maybe around the mid 70s. The stars looked so incredible tonight. In the city, there were barely any stars because of all the pollution, but here, there were more than I can count. It was beautiful, no doubt.
"Goodnight Lu." Nate whispered, turning his back to me. I stared at the night sky and listened to the sounds of nature for a while, before answering.
"Night Nate." I turned my back against his as well, and hugged his flannel. My eyes shut, and slowly my body drifted off to sleep.
I felt a warm breath hit my face. I slowly and forcefully opened my eyes, which caused the sunlight to shine through my eyes. I shut them again for a couple minutes, until I no longer felt the sun in my eyes. I then realized what position Nathan and I were in, and I let go of contact. He had his arms around my stomach, and my left leg wrapped this torso, while my arm was across his chest. I got up, and walked over to the water to wash off my face.
"Luna!! Nathan!!" A voice called. Then more voices spoke up.
"Down here!!" I yelled as loud as I could. I saw a head from the edge of the cliff, and it retracted quickly.
"I FOUND THEM."
