Yo homie,
What's happening?
Yeah, so you might have guessed the theme of this letter is a rap song. Not the entire rap song but just one line that I wanted to talk to you about.
Remember when I studied in Washington? I'm not sure if you know this but our community was actually pretty close to Mount St. Helens. (I know you wish it were Mount Doom...damn I wish it was too now). But there's a lyric in this song called "I Do This" by a rapper called Abstract - his music is fantastic, very inspirational. But this song is about why he does what he does and most importantly who he does it for. And he has this one lyric that goes:
"Lucky I grew up round some mountain we were taught to climb. Without that inspiration I don't think that this would be my life."
I haven't told anyone this but when I was in Washington I saw the most amazing thing. I was hanging out with my friends and we went to his treehouse and it wasn't that high but it was high enough.
Looking out the window I saw Mount St. Helens. Even to this day, I can recall the snow capped peak on the lilac-blue sky. The bits of grey volcano that you could see that wasn't covered by the snow. The clouds hovering above it framing in magnificently.
It was beautiful.
I wish you could have stayed in the US with us. That sight is something I could never forget and it made me remember that even in the darkest of times, there are things in the world so beautiful you will never forget it.
It helps me continue on, but it's still pretty difficult.
Love you always,
Nasri
