Tyler walked home smiling from ear to ear. He couldn't believe Josh knew he existed.
"Josh" Tyler said out load. "Josh. Such a cute name." He sighed happily to himself repeating his name over and over.
Tyler never felt love like this before. He felt so happy. It was like a dream and he never wanted to wake up.
He took his keys out of his pocket, and put it in the lock. The key wouldn't unlock the door. Looking confused, he took the key out the lock and pushed the door. Weirdly it opened. Tyler crept cautiously into the kitchen holding his bag in front of him like a shield.
"Tyler!" Came a chirpy voice coming from the living room.
"Mum!" Tyler dropped his bag and walked to over to his mum.
She wrapped her arms around Tyler and he collapsed into her warm and safe embrace.
"I've missed you mum." Tyler said.
"I've missed you to. I wish I could spend time with you Tyler but I'm really busy. I'm happy that your safe."
There was a pause, nothing needed to be said. This hug was enough. Tyler loved hugs from his mother. He felt so safe and happy like nothing mattered. After a couple of minutes they split from the embrace.
"I love you so much Tyler." His mother said kissing his forehead.
"I love you too mum."
"I made dinner for you and I was thinking we can watch a movie after?" She asked.
Tyler smiled. "Sounds great."
He ran upstairs to change into comfy clothes. The smell of grilled cheese followed him up the stairs, the best smell ever.
Tyler rushed down the stairs to the kitchen. His mother was serving grilled cheese and bean toasties, his favourite. Tyler hugged her from behind and rested his chin on her shoulder.
"I missed you mum." He said.
"I missed you too Tyler."
She put the food on the table as Tyler was setting out the cutlery. He had never sat and ate with family for a long time. The last time he sat around a table to eat was when the family was stable. Tyler's mum would work regular hours, Tyler's dad didn't abuse Tyler and Zack was home.
"So how was school?" Tyler's mum asked.
"It was ok." Tyler sad looking down at his food.
Tyler's mum realised that something was up and so she changed the subject.
Tyler and his mum talked all evening and he never felt so safe and warm.
After the movie Tyler's mother decided to go to bed.
"I'll clean up the plates and stuff." Tyler said.
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah. Plus you need your sleep. You'll be waking up early in the morning."
"Ok. Goodnight honey." She kissed Tyler's forehead and went upstairs.
He turned off the tv and walked to the kitchen. He stacked the plates and put them on the counter.
Tyler unlocked the door to go outside and look at the sky. He liked the night sky. He felt peace in it. Nothing much happened at night and he really enjoyed that. It got rid of his anxiety and stress. He lay down on the cold stone that lead to his house and looked up at the sky. He made pictures out of the stars and let his mind wonder.
He was safe. He's living with his wonderful mother who swore to protect him and he's friends with a very attractive boy.
After an hour of staring at the stars and his negative feelings draining into the night sky, he got up and plodded up the stairs. He took a half used notebook and went to his bed. He turned to a clean page and wrote down his thoughts. They were different to what he usually wrote. Happier.
He didn't want to sleep tonight as he didn't want to ruin his good mood. He felt so happy knowing that he was going to hang out with Josh. He loved the way he felt when he thought of Josh. It was a warm, happy feeling. He wrote down how he felt about Josh.
Tyler checked the time.
1:27 am
He smiled to himself imagining the evening out with Josh. He couldn't wait to see his comforting eyes. He couldn't wait to see his smile. He couldn't wait to hear his warm, hot chocolate voice. He couldn't wait to be in his presence. And with that Tyler drifted off to sleep.
