The Life We Live

Chapter 2

"Yep. I think," Chris squeezed my shoulder reassuringly and gave me a  sweet smile. He gently pushed open the door and allowed me to walk in  first. I was instantly met with Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie,  Hayley Atwell and then Samuel L. Jackson.

There wasn't much  time for getting to know each other a bit because the directors Joe and  Anthony Russo walked in and asked us all to sit down in our assigned  seats. I was sat in between Chris and Sebastian and I listened while we  went round the table and told everyone a little bit about ourselves.

It  got to me and I swallowed back the nerves before I spoke "I'm Candice,  Seb might have already told you a little bit about me so I won't say too  much. This is my first film so I'm really nervous but excited."

"Aww, we'll take care of you, sis. Still gonna pull pranks on you, though."

"I  will kick your ass, Sebastian, you know I can do it. Don't make me tell  everyone about that time I kicked your ass so hard you cried," everyone  chuckled, Sebastian went bright red and I smiled triumphantly.

We  got to my first scene halfway through the table read. "Uh, is this  really my first scene? Jess being in nothing but a shirt and underwear  in front of Steve when they first meet?"

Joe and Anthony nodded at us and I felt the heat rush to my cheeks, I  looked over at Chris to see that he was as red as the shirt I had on.

I  could already feel my heart racing, it was beating that hard and that  fast I thought it might jump out of my chest, my hands were sweaty and  they started shaking until Chris grabbed my hand and rubbed his thumb  over my knuckles and gave me a reassuring smile.

I got this weird  feeling in my hand and my heart when he touched me, kind of like  electricity, it felt strangely right, the way his hand felt in mine, the  way they fit perfectly together.

I shook the odd thoughts out of my head when he removed his hand from mine and concentrated on the rest of the table read.

The  table read ended and we all had the rest of the day off, "Hey, you guys  want to go for dinner at that diner a couple of blocks away?" Chris  asked me and Sebastian as we stood up from our chairs.

"I can't. I promised Mackie I'd go to the gym and train with him," Sebastian replied with a smile that said 'sorry'.

"I'll come, I'm starving." Chris' face lit up at my response.

"You've  only just met her and you're going on a date with her already Chris," I  rolled my eyes at Sebastian's playful words and told him it wasn't a  date, he grinned at me and waved as we said bye to him and the others  before walking out into the parking lot.

"You wanna go on my bike or in your car?" Chris asked with a smile.

"Let's  go on your bike," he nodded and we walked over to his bike, he passed  me a helmet while he put his own on. I climbed on the seat behind him  and cautiously wrapped my arms around his waist before he pulled out of  the parking lot and headed towards the diner.
