Their Past

Katie and Makayla were born one night, Katie is the oldest by two minutes. Their mom holds them.

Brian: They are so pretty!

Lucy: That they are.

A doctor comes into the room.

Doctor: I'm sorry but I got some bad news.

Brian: What is it?

Doctor: Your first born daughter was born blind.

Brian: Tell me its not so!

Doctor: I'm afraid so. You can wake her up and look for yourselves.

Makayla's and Katie's dad wakes them both up and looks into their eyes, they both have blue eyes but Katie's eyes are cloudy and a grayish blue color and Makayla's are a clear bright blue color.

Lucy: Oh my god!

Brian: Its going to be alright Lucy.

Lucy: She won't be able to go to school, she will get made fun of and bullied! Its not going to be alright Brian!

Brian: We'll home school her, Makayla will still be able to go to public school. We'll protect her Lucy. We'll teach her all she needs to know and learn.

Lucy: OK, Brian. Just as long as we can keep her home or at least away from other kids.

Brian: Katie will have Makayla.

Lucy: and us.

Four years later:
One day Makayla goes to preschool, as usual, while Katie stayed home with their mom.

Lucy: Katie sweety?

Katie: Yes mama?

Lucy: I'm going to lay down for awhile.

Katie: Would you like me to take my nap now?

Lucy: If you want to sweety, or can just practice your reading.

Katie: Its called Braille Mama.

Lucy: I should be awake before your daddy comes home.

Katie: I'll be quiet so you can nap.
Lucy: Thank you baby girl.

Katie: Makayla's younger than me.

Lucy: I know.

Their mom goes into her and Brian's bedroom to lay down. Three hours later Katie goes into her parents room and goes over to her mom.

Katie: Mama?

No answer

Katie: Mama!

No answer

Katie climbs on the bed and shakes her mom, Katie feels her mom's ice cold skin Katie starts to cry.

Katie: Mama wake up!! Please wake up!!

Brian her dad comes home and can hear Katie crying and screaming, which wasn't like Katie. Brian quickly goes inside and to his and Lucy's bedroom.

Katie: Mama! Why won't you answer me?! Mama!!

Brian: Katie whats wrong?

Katie: Daddy, mama wasn't feeling well a few hours ago and she came in here to lay down and she won't wake up now! Whats wrong with her daddy?

Brian couldn't say anything, so instead he picked up his distressed four year old daughter Katie and carried her into the living room.

Katie: Daddy is mama gonna be OK?
