Heart Shattered

Makayla didn't tell Larry that she was struggling paying bills, caring for five kids and her blind twin. One rainy day while Makayla was gone, Katie walked into Makayla's  room and seen a stack of bills on her bed. Katie was already falling into a dark sad pit she knew all to well. That pit was depression. She picked up the stack of bills and sat on the stair steps waiting for Makayla to come home. She was lost in thought when the door opened.

Makayla: Katie it's not safe for you to be on the stairs you might fall and get hurt.

Katie: I won't. I want to get a job and help you out with the bills.

Makayla: Nobody will hire you Katie because your blind you know that.

Katie: I'm not blind anymore

Makayla was shocked at what Katie just said.

Makayla: What?!

Katie: Before Lau and me came home. A doctor did surgery on my eyes and I've been able to see ever since.

Makayla: WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME?!

Katie: It didn't seem like the right time than. I'm sorry

She looked down and started letting all her feelings out as tears. Lau hadn't called her once, he texted her once a day only asking how she was and that was it. She was sure she did something wrong. She got up and went to the bathroom. She locked the door. She looked at herself in the mirror.

Katie's pov: I'm sure I did something wrong. It's always my fault. I'm the ugly one, I'm annoying and I'm sure he only felt bad for me.

She couldn't hold back the tears anymore. She let the dark pit engulf her.  Makayla sensed something was wrong. She knocked on the door but all she hearted was Katie's soft crying and sobs on the other side. They both unblocked their twin connection just than. Makayla felt all the hurt, worry and sadness that her twin felt.

Makayla: It's going to be alright Katie

Katie: *sobs and whispers* he's mad but what did I do?

Makayla: You did nothing blue eyes. I'm really happy you got your sight. I'm sorry I yelled at you.

Katie: *whispers* it's fine

The door bell rings.

Makayla: I will be right back Katie.

Katie: Okay

A few moments later there was a harder knock on the bathroom door. Katie opened it to find their uncle. He pulled her into a hug.

uncle: I'm sorry I hurt you in the past. can you ever forgive me?

Katie seen inside his heart and soul. He had gotten help and he felt terrible for what he did to her.

Katie: I forgive you

Their uncle stayed for dinner with them. He met his great nieces. He felt happy and for once he got forgiveness from someone who should actually hate him, his niece Katie. When he found out she could see for once in her sad life, it made him realize that he could light and happiness. They talked and visited for hours.

uncle: If you need anything or if anyone hurts give me call ok?

Katie: I will. Drive safe

Uncle: I will

He left. As it neared bed time Katie got a little more sadder. Makayla called Larry and told him that he needed to tell Lau to call Katie right away. A few moments Katie's phone rings. She sees it's Lau. She debates whether to answer or not. She answered.

Katie:*chokes out* hello?

She hated chocking out anything.  She didn't want Lau to know she had been crying but when she choked out hello she knew he knew something was wrong.

Lau: What's wrong?

Katie: LAU! What did I do wrong that you haven't called me?

Lau: I've been hanging out with friends and busy doing work shops and performances.

That's not really the answer she wanted. She wanted to hear him say you didn't anything but when he didn't she still felt like she did something.

Katie: I thought you were angry with me. You haven't called me in two months. You'll be home in three weeks right?

Lau: Four and half baby

She was praying it was three weeks and sooner but when he said four and half her heart sank to the floor. She wanted to fix whatever it was she did wrong.

Katie: I was hoping it was sooner.

They talked for 45 minutes. To Katie that 45 minutes went by way to fast. She was able to fall asleep but when her phone went off two hours later it woke her up. What she saw shattered her heart.
He couldn't have...
He wouldn't have...
Did he?
The house was silent until a broken sad cry filled the silence.

Makayla woke up and and went into her twins room. Katie had her knees to her chest and head her knees. Her whole body was wracking with hard loud sobs. Makayla picked up her phone and seen the picture and text from the strange girl. Makayla was beyond pissed. She went over to Katie and hugged her.

Katie:*inaudible* leave me alone

Makayla: Katie it's going to be alright.

Katie: I knew I did something wrong for him to cheat.

She just broke down in fresh tears again.

Larry and Lau showed up a few minutes later. Katie was sitting at the kitchen table crying and starring blankly into a cup of hot chocolate.

Lau: Baby I'm here. What's wrong?

Katie:*screams* HOW COULD YOU?! WHAT DID I DO?!

Lau: what do you mean? You didn't do anything

Katie: THIS!

She threw her phone at him with the picture and text message from Crystal. Lau was shocked, stunned and he felt like shit for hurting Katie.

Lau: Baby

Katie: NO! GET OUT!! JUST GET OUT AND LEAVE ME ALONE!

She broke down crying so hard and so much she fell to the floor feeling weak and wanting to just die.

Lau: *with tears in his eyes* I'm so sorry.

Makayla came over and tried to calm Katie down but to no avail.

Makayla: LAURENT GET OUT BEFORE I SHOOT YOU!

Laurent walked out. Larry and Makayla tried to get Katie to calm down but her heart was too shattered and the dark pit already consumed her and she was about to leap off the edge. Katie could do nothing but cry. She couldn't eat and she couldn't sleep she was that broken and deep into depression. Laurent made Crystal get a DNA test of the baby she was carrying...It was in fact his.

The questions now remained were was he able to fix his marriage? Could Katie be saved again or was she going to die? Would they be a family or a broken home? It all depended on Lau to fix this. But how was he going to? Was he going to deny Crystal's baby? He has to set things right again and has to heal Katie before it's too late. Was it already too late for Katie?
