I soon as I go through the door, I see Johnny crying and Rachael beside him. "Where did you go? You just left him here." She said. "I'm sorry, I just....I had to go." I stammered. I walked over to Johnny and hugged him. "I'm so sorry." I said. I had made my mind up. I know I had infected Mr Wilcox. I know that Johnny is probably infected as well. The rest of that day was one of my worst. I keep having flashes of my parents. Mrs Wilcox came home a few hours after, crying. My mind was numb. Rachael went home after Mrs Wilcox went to sleep. At midnight I got up, looked at Johnny one last time and walked out of the house. I won't be responsible for anymore deaths. But i am definitely not going to join all the others, no, I want to be alone. I kept my phone, and a couple other items with me. Then I found an alley, went in it and cried myself to sleep. The worst apart about it is I know I've spent enough time with john and mrs. Wilcox to know I've infected them. I had some cash on me, so I went to a gas station to get some food. I went in and found what I wanted and put it on the table. I looked around for the cashier, but couldn't find anyone. I heard a soft moan in the bathroom. I immediately thought of all those scary movies Johnny made me watch. I peeked around the door to see the cashier tied up and gagged. As soon as I see him, I hear a click of a gun being cocked and the feel of the gun behind my head. "Whoa, easy. I'm just here to by some food." I say. "Well that's just too bad." He says. I can tell his voice is too high and makes him sounds hilarious. I turn around slowly. He's a middle age man, I think. Real shaggy. Overgrown beard, long hair, and dirty cloths. Then the smell hit me, wow. I concentrated on the gun and it started glowing red. He immediately dropped the gun. "What, can't take the heat?" I ask. "Your one of those freaks on tv aren't you?" He says. The word freak just sets me off. My eyes and hands immediately catch fire. I shoot at his feet. He scoots back in fear. He gets up to run, but I'm in front of him In a flash. I lift in my hands and his jacket catches on fire. Wait this is wrong. I run to the guy and put out the fire on him. He's unconscious, I pick him up and run him out the door, lay him on the ground. I look back and see the gas station was on fire. Wait, the cashier! I speed in, unaffected by the fire, find him in the bathroom coughing. I grab him and run out the door just as the place explodes. I fly forward with the guy still on my back. I land basically on my face, with the cashier on my back. I push him off me. Then check his pulse. I sigh in relief. Alive. I look around for the other guy. He was nowhere to be found, must've woken up. Well today sucked. Totally lost control. I guess I don't have this thing down. The power corrupts no wonder there is so many of them turning out to be bad. I guess i could use some practice, and some food. I didn't even get to grab some food. An idea struck me. Not necessarily a good idea, but one that could help me prevent these situations. I don't want to hurt anymore people, but the bad news is that my powers are growing stronger. Wonder why?
I walked back to the alley. I know they're watching me. They said so. "Hey, I'll go. I'll join the fight, or whatever." I said. I was definitely not going to join the fight. I just need some help with my powers, then I would ditch. Aras said he could help. A guy step out of a corner, wait how did I not notice him? "I'll take you." He said. There was something off about him. The air got sucked out of me. I gasped, struggling for a breath. Then blacked out.
I wake up, hurting all over. I let out a groan. "Sorry for that, just had to make sure you didn't see where we were." Someone said. I know that voice. I open my eyes and see Chase. "Your making me regret my decision." I say with a cough. "Yeah, sorry for that. You never know, you could have been working for the police. They've recruited some of us," he says "anyway, let's get some food in ya. I've heard you haven't eaten all day." He says. Well I guess they were watching when the gas station exploded. I get up, not for him, for food. He led me to a cafeteria and got me a tray of food. Everyone I walked by stared. "How do you guys have the money for all this?" I ask. "We're funded by someone. His name I can't say." He says. I don't say anymore. I'm too hungry. As I chow down, he looks at me with disgust. "I guess I underestimated your hunger." He says. Once I've finished, we get up and walk to an office. "Now your going to talk to Aras, then head over to the bunks." He says. "What does he want to talk about?" I ask. "He just wants to go over some things. To make sure your with us." He says. Shivers run down my back, thinking of what would happen if I'm not. "Ok." Is all I say. He gestures me in. Aras is sitting in a chair behind a desk. He looks to young for his position. Looks about 22 at the most. "Ah, Sam, how ya doing?" He asks, though his tone implies he doesn't care. I answer anyway. "Good, I guess." "Well I'm glad. I heard what happened to mr. Wilcox. Sad thing. You know we warned you, but it was already to late for him. I hope it's not for your friend john and his mother." He says. I cringe. "Yes, that's why I'm here. Too keep them for getting hurt." I say, not necessarily a lie. "Yes, but you could have keep them safe on the streets, but no, you came here. You came here because you can't control your powers and I suppose once you've mastered them, you'd ditch us. Am I wrong?" He asks. Why can't I ever do anything cool. That plans off. I don't say anything. "Well, sam, that's not how this is going to work. Your either going to stay here as a free man and participate in the future or be put in the depths." He says with a nasty tone. I do not want to be apart of the 'future', but I certainly don't want to be put in the ground. How did this day get so messed up. Well if I do comply I have control of the situation. I wonder if all of these people here have been corrupted by their power. Their hate of normal people, thinking their the next step. What they don't realize is, they're still human. "I'll be good, I'll stay here as long as you say." I say. Once I'm good enough, I'm out of here. "Good choice, I hope you'll be happy here or wherever we may go. Chase will take you to your team. They'll keep an eye on you and who knows, maybe someday you'll be in charge of that team. We are the future Sam. We must stand up for our people. We are a new generation. If we must fight for our freedom, so be it." He says, then waves me out the door. Chase is waiting there. "Ah, didn't go so well did it. Well judging how your still alive, it went well enough. Well, welcome to the new age. Everyone is excited to have you. Since your powers are growing up you have the potential to be a level 5." He says. "Wait how many level 5's do you have?" I ask. "Just one, but there are some, like you, that are potential level 5's. Come on." He says. He takes me down some hallways to a hallway with many rooms. He stops at one room. The room is filled with bunkbeds. "I know you may think we're evil or something, but we're not, we're just helping out solars. You've been assigned to this team. Have fun." He says. I walk in the room and to my new life.
