Chapter 14

I look over and see Sam on the ground covered in ice. Dang it. Ben swings his staff at Chase. He blasts it and it goes flying out of Bens hands across the hall. Lincoln has put down Michael and is now using himself as a shield. We outnumber them, but I know it won't last for long. Stephen runs over and picks up Ben's staff. It glows with electricity. Daniel sees this and nods to Chase. Oh no you don't i put my hands together and energy comes from them. They nearly miss Chase. Daniel sees this a sends a tentacle of water that grabs one of my hands and slams it against the wall. Ben pulls out a paper clip and throws it at the water. It explodes into a portal. Another one opens beside Daniel. He looks as his water tentacle hits him. Suddenly my arm is free. Never understood Ben's powers. I connect my hands and aim at Chase. Right as he's about to reach Stephen, I blindside him. It wasn't deadly, just meant for stun. Chase goes flying. Stephen throws the staff at Daniel as he gets up. He's soaked. That gonna hurt. It hits his shoulder and he collapses. He spasms. Heat comes from behind me. Connor has been focused with Lincoln, but Lincoln has been defending Michael well. I look behind me to see Sam breaking out of his ice trap. He's steaming. He looks angry. His eyes blaze with fire. As soon as he's free, he triggers his super speed and blindsides Connor. He gets up quickly though, he try's icing him again, but it just turns into water. It splashes Sam, I think that just annoys him. The air gets hotter, but I know it's hotter around Connor. He start to look dizzy. The air cools. He nods to Ben. He doesn't want to hurt him. I know that. Ben throws his staff beneath Connor, opening a portal and he falls into it. Then the portal opens above us. Connor falls from it hitting the floor. Unconscious. Chase looks at us and runs. "We better get out of here." I say. "Please get us out of this mad house." Sam says. "Ben get us out of here." I say to him. The exits will be guarded now. We were to late. Ben can only transport to places he's been or is right now. "But we would be going to a place they would know to look for us." Ben says. "It's our only way out." I say. "Ok then." He throws his staff and the portal opens. I've never been through one of these, none of us have. Only Ben, he never talks about it. Guess we're about to find out. Ben goes first, Lincoln with Michael second, Stephen third, Sam walks through, then I do. Escaping the place that I have lived in for so long.

Going through the portal felt weird. It was black inside, but it had a glow. It was cold. We were in there for a while. I guess the farther away, the longer it takes. I still feel a bit numb from being frozen. Somehow I got out of that. I find it harder and harder to control myself. Must be a side affect of my powers. I guess you could say I'm a hot head now. Wow. I'm going crazy, making puns in my head. Then I was thrown out of the portal. I open my eyes and see light. It seemed like an eternity in there. Where am I? Ben looks hollow. I look around. It seems to be an old house. There's something off about it though. There is burn marks everywhere. Ice patches and giant rocks on the floor. I look up at the ceiling and see some of the ceiling has caved through. Then I look at the rocks. No way. "What happened here Ben?" I ask. "They wanted me bad. When I refused, they took me by force." Ben says solemnly. "So this is your house?" I ask. "It was." He replies. "Lincoln go scout, when your done guard the door. Ben take care of Michael." Luke says. Lincoln nods and takes off. When I got to the warehouse I got medical training. It was mandatory. They said Michael was the best medic in the team. But he's injured. Ben is the second best, so it will work. "What do I do." I ask. "I don't know go get us some food." Luke says. Don't think that's a good idea. "Don't you think they'll be looking for us on the streets?" I ask. "Good point, but we need food and medical supplies." He says. "I have an idea." I say. "Do you have a phone?" I ask. "Yeah, why?" He says. "Give it here." I say. He tosses me his phone. I type in a number and call. "Who is this?" Rachael asks. "Rachael, it's Sam." I say. "Sam, why are you calling me through this number? Where are you?" She asks. "My phone is gone. I need you to get some stuff for us." I say. "Us?" She asks. "Just, please, do this." I plead. "Ok, what do you need?" She asks.

She walks through the door with groceries in her arms. Lincoln behind with groceries as well. "Thanks for doing this Rachael." I say. "Sure." She says. She looks at all of us awkwardly. "Hi, I'm Luke." Luke extends his hand. She puts down the groceries and shakes his hand. The greeting go around. Michael comes out of the room from which he was resting. "What's the commotion about?" He says groggily. He looks at Rachael and the grogginess leaves his body. "So you must be Rachael." He says. "Yes, that me." She answers awkwardly. "Sam can we talk?" She asks. "Sure." I say. I think she just wanted to leave the awkwardness. We step outside. "So what happened?" She asks. "Well after we spoke, they got wind of it and didn't like that. I wasn't supposed to be contacting anyone. They punished Michael for helping me. I escaped and freed him. The rest of them just came along." I explain. "How much trouble are you with these guys?" She asks. "A lot. Injured a few solars and burnt a room nearly to the ground. Broke out. They will stay and take us out if they found us. They can't risk the information we know. We're a threat to them." I say. "Oh, well that's nice." She says. "I'm sorry for getting you wrapped into this." I apologize. "No it's fine. We've known each other for a long time." She says. "How did life get so messed up?" I ask. "I can't answer that." She says. That's when the rumble starts.
