LAUREN'S POV

When I arrived to school the next day, I saw Dinah talking away with Normani. That's weird because I never see her without Y/N. "Hey girl." Mani greeted me. Dinah gave a warming smile with a wave. I returned the actions and greeted the two back.

"Hey guys." The two girls were all cuddled up together, causing me to raise an eyebrow. I didn't question it because I knew that Normani has had a crush on Dinah for just about the same amount of time I've been crushing on Y/N. She would probably think I would try and scare Dinah away.

A few whistles caught my attention.

Various girls and guys were fawning over someone who still hasn't gotten out of their car. I noticed it was Y/N's truck, but other people never really make a big deal out of her showing up. Not saying that I don't in my head.

But people got louder once Y/N stepped out. She wore a dark gray v-neck with a black leather jacket over her shoulders. Her legs sported black jeans with dark gray vans covering her feet. Her hair was nicely combed and black-framed Ray-Bans shielded her eyes.

My heart started to beat faster at all the dirty thoughts running through my head. My breath hitched when Y/N ran her hand through her hair. It was one of those cliche moments where everything and everyone goes in slow motion.

Y/N didn't pay any mind to anyone. She just walked, or more like limped, inside the school without second glancing anyone. Or so I thought.

Y/N looked back in our direction for a split second and although I wished she was, I don't think she was looking at me. I saw Dinah looking in Y/N's direction with somewhat of a glare, but clear sadness was prominent in her eyes. When Y/N disappeared inside the school, sadness took over Dinah's face. Normani noticed and brought Dinah into her arms.

I didn't want to interrupt or push Dinah into telling us what happened, so I just left the two alone. I walked into the school with the bell ringing shortly after. Y/N was sat in English with her usual emotionless look. She leaned back against the chair with her arms crossed, feet under the desk in front of her, and her eyes forward.

The tardy bell rang and Mr. Brady started class. He gave us the whole class to work on our projects. Wow I guess we didn't have to meet on our own time. Well great, I messed things up when I didn't even have to be there in the first place.

"I got most of the report done already, I just need to do the last couple paragraphs." I said. Y/N hummed and nodded once in response. It became an awkward silence.

"I'm sorry for what I said too. I didn't mean to make you feel uncomfortable." I whispered.

"Look Lauren. I don't know what you're trying to get at, but stop. If it's getting to know me that you want, stop. If it's something more, stop. There's real bad shit happening in my life that I can't have other people involved in. I just lost my best friend for the same reason. So please stop." She sighed at the end, running her hand through her hair. I nodded and remained silent. Thoughts were eating at me until I spoke up again.

"No, I won't stop." Y/N looked over at me with surprise on her face. "If you would let someone in for once, then you would understand that you don't have to be alone in what you're going through right now. You're best friend is hurting right now. I understand if you don't want me to be that person that helps you, then I will wait until I am. But you need to fix things with Dinah." I paused.

Before I could speak up again, the class door opened and a couple police officers stepped in. From the corner of my eye, I saw Y/N tense up big time. Her body completely froze. Everyone in the classroom watched in complete silence as the officers spoke to Mr. Brady quietly. He nodded and turned to our side of the room.
