The nurse hesitantly rounded the corner and took a small step towards Riane. She was curled up in a ball against the wall.
"Honey? Are you okay?"
"Yeah I'm fine." She said, her voice muffled by her shirt.
"You can go to the room now, the doctors are done."
Riane's lip quivered. Did she really want to go in there? Did she really? The man she'd once had a chance to marry now lying on his deathbed? "O-ok." Riane stood up and wiped her eyes, then passed the nurse and made her way towards the room.
Her heart pounded louder and louder in her ears as her feet carried her forward. The hallway seemed to sway slightly and pulse almost, like it would swallow her. She stopped abruptly and sat down in a chair sitting along the wall. Her head fell into her hands and she slid her fingers back into her tangled hair. "I can't do this."
"Hey you okay?" A brown haired girl was standing next to her.
"I, yeah I'm fine."
The girl raised her eyebrows. Her eyes were blue like a husky's.
"Okay, fine I'm not. The man I loved is dead. Okay. There." Riane covered her face with a hand as she could felt her emotions twisting and threatening to send more tears streaming down her already damp face.
"What is his name?" The girl asked.
"Trojan Matthews." Riane breathed, setting her hands in her lap then looking up. She froze, completely dumbfounded.
The girls face broke into a huge smile and she grabbed Riane's hands, hoisting her up and aggressively pulling her in for a hug. "I missed you Riane. It has been way too long." Joy pulled back and covered her mouth with a hand, hiding her frown. She wished this could be a happy moment, but Trojan was dead.
"Joy I haven't seen you in years! How'd you know where to find me?" Riane quickly wiped her eyes. She was feeling slightly better now. Slightly.
"I was actually here for a uh, pregnancy test... But it's all good... It's negative." Joy bit her lip, her eyes flicking to the left.
Riane cracked a smile. "You're such a hoe." She playfully hit Joy's shoulder.
"Whatever." Joy laughed.
Riane took a deep breath.
Joy sniffed.
Just staring into each other's faces, the past came flooding back, every good memory and the friendship they'd had that couldn't be compared to anything. A bond they'd formed, that no matter what arose, could never be broken. Even if they hadn't spoken in 5 years, they could just pick up where they'd left off.
Joy raised her eyebrows and tilted her head in the direction of the room.
Riane swallowed nervously, then nodded.
They linked arms and neared the doorway, when a shout stopped them.
"Riane! Is Trojan okay!?" Dawn and Tuck were panting as they sprinted down the hallway toward her.
Riane shook her head.
Dawn and Tuck stopped, looked at each other, then walked over to Riane and hugged her. "We're so sorry Riane."
The hatred in Dawns voice had completely gone. She didn't have a grudge to hold anymore. It was over. Done. A thing of the past. She'd moved on and forgiven Riane, just like Trojan had told her to do before he'd passed on.
