Lingaa's tactics lead him and his gang in jail. Nonetheless, he keeps a smile on his face as he dreams of himself in different parts of the world such as London, Philipines, and Norway just to name a few places. Lingaa's friend (Santhanam) asks Lingaa if he envisions their friends with him on the trip. He gets a no in response. Some friend!
General Comments
This movie was a huge letdown for me. The trailer was very intriguing. It made me want to watch the movie. However, when I watched this movie, it was very disappointing. I struggled to keep my eyes open. With that being said, there were some strong pieces of advice in this movie. This movie teaches one to never give up and that it is only when you have support that you can succeed in life.
Rajnikanth does not fail to capture the audience with his stellar acting. To be honest, my only motivation to watch this movie was Rajnikanth. There is a magic in his acting that helped me fight my drooping eyes. One could feel the magic in his acting. As much as I loved his acting, the plot of the movie did not do justice to Thalaivar's acting caliber. What started out being a comedic movie ended up being mostly a historical fictional movie. Personally, I do not like historical fiction films. In fact, that is one of the reasons why I did not bother to watch "Mohenjo Daro" in theaters. In fact, most of this movie was the flashback. I was waiting for the story to transition back to the present. When it did transition back to the present, it was in the last twenty or thirty or so minutes before the end of the movie.
Anushka Shetty is a good actor. She plays the role of Lakshmi well. Her character sketch is one of an in-control and clever woman. She delivers with those traits in mind. In the movie, she knows how to expose people and their treacherous deeds. She also knows what she wants at all times. She does not fail to get people to follow her pleas. Even if it is by deceit, she will get people to do what she wants. Some might say that this is being overbearing. I say that it is smart. As far as her chemistry with Rajnikanth, there is no chemistry. I was happy that the writer did not hone in too much to the love aspect of the movie. Not only would it defeat the purpose of the movie, it would make others feel awkward.
The cinematography of this film is stunning. The places where the film were shot are breathtaking. When the dam is finally built, the water from the oceans make the land flourish in bright colours. Before the dam was constructed, the land was very arid. It was in desperate need of irrigation. Once the land is irrigated, the land is absolutely beautiful.
For the first time, I am disappointed in A.R Rahman's composition skills. A.R Rahman is known for his beautiful compositions. Even the soundtrack for "Endhiran" did not fail to impress me! There was not much of a story in his film, so I was hoping that the soundtrack would keep me motivated to continue watching the film. Instead, it made me fall asleep even more. Although the songs had a good meaning, the songs did not impress me in any shape or form.
K. Lingeswaran "Lingaa" (Rajnikanth)
After a horrendous song sequence, the viewers get to see the star actor in jail for his latest heist. Despite the fact that he is in jail for a crime, that does not stop him from dreaming of a different future, a future where he could travel the world alone (Santhanam's reaction to this was hilarious). This is a very special skill. No matter how bad our lives might be, it is a special skill to be able to smile even in times of distress.
