General Comments
I was expecting this movie to be a Tamil version of Shakespearean Romeo and Juliet. You know how Romeo and Juliet both end up committing suicide because of their fathers' hatred towards each other? This movie was a modern twist to this movie. I liked how this movie went out of its way to put a modern touch to a 15th century tragic. However, it was an average movie on my part. I felt that it could have been better. I do not know what kind of improvements can make this movie better. All I know that this movie could have been better.
Karthik [Romeo] (Jayam Ravi)
This guy is so dedicated to his job. He pursues a career that he actually likes. He is also happy with his job even though the pay is not all that great. That is goals right there. Most people who are in high school right now do not know what they want to be in life. It is not the end of the world if you do not know what you want to be right at this moment. Maybe you will discover your passion after high school? If it is their passion, some of their parents want them to pursue something that will bring more money into their life. Is money everything in life? Yes, it is true that a certain amount of money is needed to live a successful life, but what is the meaning of life if one is not content with it? Money does not buy happiness. It is a fact that money can buy a lot of things, but it does not buy happiness. Happiness is an inside job. People learn to be happy. Even a poor person is happy not because s/he has a lot of wealth, but because s/he is grateful with whatever s/he is blessed with. Anyways, I digress. Despite the fact that Karthik has connections with famous people, he does not act like a snob about it. He is so modest about it. It is not a big deal for him. I felt that it was really sweet of him to wait for Aishu. What guy is willing to wait for a girl who ditches him for a richer guy? In movies, guys will do that, but in real life? Guys would probably spit in a girl's face if that girl like Aishu tried to get back with him. It is only a prediction, so I do not know if that actually happens or not. I guess the reason why he waited for Aishu was because he knew that Aishu truly loves him, but she is not able to realize that because she is blinded by money. He did not take her back with open arms so easily. He tortured her a bit. He did not torture her for too long as he revealed it was all an act at the end. Who thought it was cute when Karthik was running rounds around the temple with all these women? I thought that was a really cute scene.
Aishu [Juliet] (Hansika)
Oh my God! I hated her character so much in this movie. I mean, I love the actor who played her role. Do not get me wrong on that part.I just hated the role she had to play. I mean, she is really beautiful, but her character is so ugly. She is such a gold digger. She only wanted to date Karthik because he was wealthy, and when she found out that he was not as wealthy as she thought, she broke up with him. I understand that she wanted security since she was an orphan. One cannot live on love. Money is also important. The case is not such that Karthik is a person on the streets. Karthik had a stable job. Once he has enough money, he would be able to open up his own gym. She blamed him for misleading her. How could she do that? It was not his fault at all. She assumed everything about him. She assumed he was rich because he drove an expensive car and he had connections with famous people. She did not bother to correct her assumptions at all. She got a really good first impression of him, and she based his character and his livelihood on that first impression. First impressions are usually wrong until one actually gets to know the person. Sometimes, the person ends up being better than what you imagined and sometimes, that person can be much worse than she though. She was so happy with the type of person she thought he was that she did not get to actually know him. She left him because he was not the person who she thought he was. She then went after Arjun. Was Arjun better than Karthik? Chancey Illa. He tried to transform her into something he wanted her to be. Some of these transformations were: improve writing (like who the heck inspects handwriting?), act all ladylike around his family (ever heard of being yourself? no? well, now you have heard about it. trust me, it works magic), and a bunch of other crap. It was only when she could not cope with all of this, then she realized that Arjun is not the person whom she wants to spend her entire life with. If she was able to deal with everything that Arjun wanted, would she come back to Karthik? I highly doubt that. Why would she want to be with someone who does not even like who she is as a person? In other words, she was not happy with Arjun at the end. It was only after Arjun tried to change her that she realized her true feelings. She never liked Arjun. She always liked Karthik, even before she found out about his financial situation.
