Feesu Vaangi Confuseu Pandra (...why are you confusing us)
Meiya Sollu Yaaruda Nee (tell us the truth- who are you)Scene of the Review
James Bond (I know his real name is not James Bond, but I will refer to this name since it is one of the names that he mentions as his identity; he reveals his real name at the end to Shakeela, but it is unheard by the audience...) is sent on a mission to bring Shakeela to Das and his men as she is the doppelganger to Gadgi Moi, a women who is notorious for killing people in a certain caste. Shakeela is unaware of this at first, so she tags along with him begrudgingly. On their way to their destination, they decide to spend the night at a hotel. As Shakeela tries to settle in bed, Bond is close to her. She closes her eyes only to be rebuffed at the end.
Truth be told, I was expecting them to kiss, but I was happy that they did not. It showed that Bond respected her enough to not ruin her fantasies. He did not want her to think that he was taking advantage of her. I want a guy like James Bond (is it weird how I keep typing Bong for Bond?). Oh well... When a girl and boy are alone in an enclosed place, it is a given that something will happen between them. This scene proved the opposite.
General Comments
This movie released in theaters around the same time as Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. I was still quite new to Tamil cinema at the time, so I chose Naanum Rowdy Dhaan over this movie. According to reviews online, this movie was a complete miss. I still wanted to give this movie a chance despite its dismal reviews. I must say that this movie was not as bad as the film critics made it out to be. There were some funny moments and there were some rather grotesque moments sprinkled here and there.
Nonetheless, this movie was a complete hit in my heart. The opening scene really grasped my attention. In most of the movies I have seen, the women are always portrayed as weak, but in the opening scene of this movie, a caste leader in Uttar Pradesh (North India) kills a woman as that woman was part of a caste that she was not very fond of. Even though the caste leader is not exactly strong in the right sense of mind (or at least I think so), it takes guts to outright kill someone out of the blue. When is there ever a woman who has the upper hand in a battle?
As far as the music goes, I was not a big fan of it. Although I was not a huge fan of the soundtrack, I did find myself singing "pathy endrathukulla" out loud. If you guys are ever looking to learn numbers in Tamil, Vroom Vroom is the song for you. I also found out about Virat Kohli from this song. After listening to this song, I started following Virat Kohli all over social media.
James Bond (Chiyaan Vikram)
This actor takes it home with his driving skills. He must have practiced his driving a lot in order to be able to have those impeccable driving skills in this movie. If I was scared about my driving test before, I am not scared now. I want to be able to drive like that on the road. The only problem is that there are too many people. I swear that people will be the death of me one day.
Driving aside, I think Vikram played this role relatively well. Even though he is a conman, he is quite a generous person. Although Bond crashed into Shakeela (ultimately smashing her cake into pieces of cake versus an actual cake), Bond turned around and the next minute you know, there's cake! How he did that so fast is a question that I would like to ask. He was also generous in the sense that he did not reveal his mission to Shakeela should she feel worried. This is a generous move, but at the same time, this move was rather dangerous. It was dangerous in the sense that it caused Shakeela to misunderstand Bond's intentions.
Shakeela (Samantha Ruth Prabhu)
Samantha looked so cute in this movie. The nerd glasses definitely do her role justice. I mean, who would not want to say no to this face?
Looks aside, I found her role rather refreshing in this movie. This movie has so much suspense that it wrings the movie dry. With her acting, she was able to bring some much needed humour. How is it possible that you fail your driver license exam 15 or 16 times or so? It is possible to fail the exam once. That is why people take the test more than once. But 15 or 16 times? That is a question that I would also like answered. Watch the trailer if you do not know what I mean.
