Desiree's P.O.V

"That breakfast was just lovely," I told Demi after Mason finished thanking her.

Simon told Demi he would meet up with her late if she had the chance and she agreed.

"Wow.. I can't believe how everyone's reacting to the fact I'm standing here.." Demi explained her famous role to me. She didn't really explain to main he was still too young.

I smiled. "In Britain there's more respect then in America. Oh how I long to go the free land though.." I sighed deeply.

I only knew my park and the house I lived in for five years before escaping with Mason when he was two. The horrors are forbidden.

"Oh look at the pretty colour!" Mason squealed as a butterfly with strange colours landed on the brightly painted window glass.

Mason awed at the butterfly.

"So how long have you been living in that park." Her eyes focused on me.

I tuned my head to Demi's gentle voice. I didn't want to give her too much detail. "Not long.."
I lied. Whom I kidding. It's been a year. That's long no?

Demi seem to not be able to tell if I lied or not. To be fair she didn't know me well enough.

Demi's eyes filled with concern as I switch my closed door button on. I built walls.. Yes I know. But I must keep Mason and I safe. He's the only thing I have left.

"Desiree.. How long have you really been out there?"  I'm such a plonker. How can she read through my lie? I mean I'm a very good liar.

I looked at Mason as he stole a spoonful of home fries off my plate. "Don't be sly with me mister I saw that.." I scolded Mason. He pouted and looked away.

"I'm sworry Esi.." He said pushing my sweet spot. I sighed and hugged him.

"It's alright, don't be sad.." He nodded against my chest and we released from our hug.

"Esi don't change the subject." Demi said sternly yet still calmly.

"Please. I don't want to talk about it.." I said dropping my gaze to Mason.

"When are we going back to park?" Mason's cute curious face ask.

"Soon.." I said making a silly face at him. He smiled that looked at the window.

"Desiree, you can't stay at the park I-" she started yet I cut her off.

"No. This is exactly why I didn't want to come here! I knew you would trick me! They all do!"
I practically yelled at her. I gasped and covered my mouth. Soon my hands dropped to the side of me and looked down.

The stares of the strangers burned and itched at my skin. I felt the need to scratch and claw at it to get the paranoid feeling to go away.

I felt Mason curl into my side.

"I'm not trying to trick you," Demi's gentle voice broke the eerie silence. "All I'm saying is that you can go to an orphanage, there will be food.. A roof to covers you.. And beds.." She said calmly and slowly so I can understand.

But I did understand her clearly. Tears sprung to my eyes but I wiped them away quickly.

"No!" I yelled at her. My eyes locked in hers and I could see something flash in her bright eyes.

A mixture of Concern and sadness. Maybe sympathy? Well I didn't need her pity. Me nor Mason..

"They'll separate us! Nobody wants two kids, they'll take Mason. Nobody will want me.." I told her. It was true. No body wanted me.

A single tear dripped  from my eye..

"Listen, I think it's time me and Mason go back. Thanks for the food.."

I grabbed Mason by the hand and dragged him along with me out the door. Demi didn't follow. She also didn't pay and was yelling at some waitress to hurry up and get the bill.

I ran with Mason back to the park and back to the bench.

We sat down and Mason huffed than pushed me. "Mason!" I scolded as hit tiny hands pushed me.

"Why did you drag me out of there! I was eating your food!" He cried and jumped onto the bench pouting. "I'm still hungry!" He wined.

Dang he was such a cutie pie. But he was also yelling. But I had to be stern. "Mason be quiet," I scolded bobbing him on the head while sitting next to him.

"But my mouth doesn't want to be quiet.." He argued. "What if I told you to silence peasant?" He asked raising his thin little eyebrows at me.

"You bring up the weirdest things," I told him. Than sighed. "I'm sorry. I know you were hungry.."

"It's ok.."

He looked up he sky to exclaim the weirdest thing. "thank you God for my sister, but I really wanted a puppy that Christmas.."

Sometimes I really think that Mason's ADHD is talking for him. "Mason. I wasn't born in Christmas and I'm older than you.."

"I know.." He told me. I guess having him as a little brother made me forget about Demi. I mean she will surely forget about us.

Letting out a breath I felt like I've been holding forever I sighed and said, "Aye Mason.."
