The Elf captain spoke to Legolas in Elvish.

I looked at Caleniel, and she whispered, "He is welcoming Legolas."

"Well, who is he," I whispered back.

"He is Haldir."

My eyes narrowed at Haldir as he addressed Aragorn.

Gimli glanced at me and Caleniel. "You shouldn't have to ask her for a translation." He scuffed. "So much for the legendary courtesy of the Elves! Speak words we can all understand!"

Haldir faced Gimli. "We have not had dealings with Dwarves sicne the Dark Days."

"And you know what this Dwarf says to that? Ishkhaqwi ai durugnul!"

I looked away, forcing myself not to smile, but I couldn't help it. Had Gimli not said it, I might have.

Aragorn instantly grabbed Gimli's arm. "That was not so courteous."

Haldir seemed to ignore Gimli's statement and moved to Frodo. I slowly placed my hand on the hilt of my sword.

"You bring great evil with you." Haldir quickly turned away from the Hobbit. "You can go no further."

My brows furrowed. "Excuse me? This is our quest, and we--"

Aragorn stepped in front of me, locking his gaze with mine. "Perhaps you should let me speak. After all, this isn't the quest of you and Gimli. This is our quest."

I glanced at Haldir and glaced back at Aragorn. I whispered, "There's something you want from here."

Aragorn took a deep breath. "I don't think any man would make a long quest for something he didn't want. You must allow me to obtain what I wish here," he whispered.

"What is it?"

"You wouldn't allow me to obtain it if I told you."

I looked down a moment. He didn't have to tell me. Hell, he didn't even have to have this conversation with me. But something made me feel comfortable that he did.

Aragron said, "Please, allow me to speak to him."

I nodded. "Fine."

"It has been a while, hasn't it," Caleniel whispered as she sat next to me. "I could tell  you what he is saying to Haldir."

I sighed. "I think I'd rather wait for the surprise of it. I'm dying to know, but something tells me I won't like it."

Caleniel looked down at her feet. She let out a small laugh. "How did we ever become friends?"

I grinned. "You are one of the few Elves that isn't arrogant about everything. You're also the one that told me that you would be the only one to help me find my way back home." I paused and took out my necklace. "You never explained this to me."

"I know. The only thing I told you was that it could not take you back anymore... And that it could only take one back." Caleniel frowned slightly. "It has very powerful magic that took the life of my mother as she worked on it. She told me it was something that could travel through time. I believed her, and I wanted to take... a special friend with me. I thought he and I would be happier there, in that time change. But it's an entirely different land."

My eyes narrowed at the gem in the middle of the pendant. Maybe it does travel through time. Haldir walked towards our company. I instantly glared at him.

"Follow me," he said.
