I looked at Aragorn with wide eyes. "Did you not ask someone to keep an eye on him?"

Aragorn quickly began walking away with his hand on his hilt. "Now is not the time for that. What's done is done."

I followed him quickly. "For a leader you notice nothing. You should not lead anyone if you are so blind to few people."

Aragorn stopped in his tracks and turned to me. "What do you mean?"

"Boromir is also gone." I stood beside him. "You have no idea where two of you fellowship are."

Aragorn paused, his eyes shifting. He began walking away faster. "I must hurry to Frodo."

"We all must." Caleniel ran to our side.

"No," Aragorn said. "You shall stay behind and scout."

Legolas let out a small huff. "But Aragorn--"

"We must find Frodo." Aragorn began running and his head turned in all directions.

I huffed and ran past him. "You're moving very sluggishly. Time shall waste if you continue your pace." I paused and locked gazes with Aragorn. "Do you hear that?"

Aragorn looked ahead. "Crys of Boromir."

I ran up the hill.

Aragorn ran past me, up the hill, to the top, and he stopped. His eyes wandered, scanning all things around the large stones that stood before him. "There is nothing here," he whispered as I reached his side. He turned to me. "You asked me to quicken my pace, yet nothing is what it accomplished. We were supposed to be searching not running around."

I took a deep breath while looking around. There was nothing. No one was around these large stones and staires. I paused, and we heard a thud not too far from us near the large stones. I looked at Aragorn with wide eyes. "Perhaps someone is here."

Aragorn and I slowly approached Frodo on the other side as he began to stand up.

"Frodo?" Aragorn scanned every inch of the hobbit.

I risked a step forward. "Are you alright, Mr. Frodo?"

"It has taken Boromir," Frodo replied.

Aragorn's voice became stern. "Where is the ring?"

My eyes instantly fell on Aragorn as my brows furrowed.

"Stay away." Frodo ran from Aragorn, and I followed Aragorn, unsheathing my sword.

"Frodo," Aragorn said.

Frodo stopped running, and Aragorn did the same.

Aragorn sighed. "I swore to protect you."

I pressed my sword against Aragorn's back.

"Can you protect me from yourself," Frodo asked. "From what I see Bre is doing right."

There was a moment of silence. My eyes fell on the ring as Frodo opened the palm of his hand. I paused, feeling something try to pull me in. My eyes were glued to the golden item, but I felt something cold tug at my heart as I recalled all the gold in Erebor.

Bre...

My eyes widened. Thorin? ...

"Would you destroy it," Frodo asked us.

I gasped, looking around. Aragorn stepped forward, and I heard someone call my name. I paused and looked around. Something is not right here...

Aragorn took another step, and I stepped closer to Aragorn, pursing my lips that I would not have to wound him. Aragorn kneeled, closing Frodo's hand with the ring inside. "I would have gone with you to the end. To the very fires of Mordor," he said. He pressed the hobbit's hand close to his chest.
