Gandalf stopped our small walk. "The wealth of Moria was not in gold or jewels but mithril." He held his staff over the edge.
The light of Gandalf's staff illuminated the mithril below us. I looked down, remembering what happened the last time I was here.
Gandalf said, "Bilbo had a shirt of mithril rings that Thorin gave him."
I paused.
"Oh," Gimli chimed. "That was a very kingly gift."
I nodded. "A kingly gift indeed."
"Yes," Gandalf said. "I never told him, but its worth was greater than the value of the shire."
My eyes widened. I hadn't know that either. That would have been nice to know when I needed my own money for things instead of having Caleniel get things for me. I shrugged and began climbing the stairs, making sure nothing would tremble underneath me.
We reached a small clearing at the top of the stairs, and my shoulders fell as Gandalf looked around. I knew what was coming.
"I have no memory of this place."
I pursed my lips and sat down. Caleniel arrived at the top, and her brows furrowed.
She sat next to me. "I'm guessing we are to rest here while some sort of business is to be carried out."
I quickly raised my brows and lowered them. "Gandalf doesn't know which way to go."
Caleniel slowly nodded. "I wouldn't either. It's been sixty years, and I barely remember anything of these mines."
Legolas squatted in front of us. "Would any of you like something to drink?"
Caleniel smiled. "No. Thank you for the offer."
Legolas nodded and looked at me.
"I'm fine. Thank you."
Legolas let out a small laugh and left.
"Caleniel."
"Bre."
I turned to her. "You really need to do something."
Caleniel paused. "As do you."
My brows furrowed. "I can't with Thorin on my mind."
Caleniel smiled, tilting her head towards me.
"What?"
Caleniel's eyes lowered. "Has the thought that you might be afraid and use Thorin as an excuse not to act?"
I looked away. "I'm not afraid of a mere man. I went on small journies and quests. I live with Dwarves. I overcame my fear when I was most afraid. I was able to move after the most horrible thing happened to me." I locked gazes with Caleniel. "I was able to move after I was broken into a million pieces."
Caleniel took a deep breath. "Then you can find love again." She stared at Aragorn. "He may not be anything like Thorin, but perhaps there's something you can find in him. After all, I don't know how but, you found something in Thorin."
I let out a small laugh. "Thorin was a great king."
"And apparently Aragorn is supposed to be also." Her brows furrowed. "And apparently... wait no. Never mind that."
"What?"
Caleniel shook her head. "I'll speak of it when we have the proper chance not to be heard."
I sighed.
"Oh!"
My head whirled to Gandalf as I stood up.
