Chapter 1
After six years of hard work, stressful days and sleepless nights, finally, the day that I've been waiting for is here! Graduation day na!
I'm so excited to see my diploma, but for now, mas gusto kong makita muna ang liwanag. I tried to open my eyes because all I can see is pure darkness. Malamang kadiliman talaga ang makikita mo, Dawn.
"Dawn!" my aunt, Tita Helena, hissed. "Don't open your eyes yet! Hindi pa ako tapos mag lagay ng eyeshadow."
"Matagal pa po ba?" I asked. My patience is getting thinner and thinner by each second. This whole thing is making me more sleepy... They don't want me to open my eyes, sana pinatulog na lang nila ako.
"Konting minuto na lang, matatapos na 'to," my aunt said, her voice sounds like she's so focused on putting my make up.
Since today is my graduation day, my mother and my aunt are stressing themselves about everything, especially my make up. I told them na 'wag na lang because hindi naman ako nag lalagay ng make up, but they insisted. Once in a lifetime lang daw kasi ang high school graduation...
They don't want me to open my eyes. It's a surprise daw.
"Malapit na mag pasko, tita. Hindi ka pa rin ba tapos?" I felt something on my right eyelid. I think my aunt is putting a liquid eye liner on my eye.
"Dawn, once in a lifetime lang ang high school graduation. Kaya dapat, effort kung effort!"
Once in a lifetime na naman! 'Yan din ang sabi sa'kin ni mama when I told her that I don't have to put any makeup today. Once in a lifetime lang daw kasi. Sabi ko naman, i-enroll niya ulit ako sa highschool para maging twice in a lifetime, she just glared at me.
I just want this to be over, "Ayos na po ba?"
"Hindi pa pero malapit na."
Few seconds later, "Tapos na po ba?"
"Malapit na."
I mentally counted from one to ten and then asked, "Tapos na po ba?"
"Malapit na."
Kala ko ba malapit na? I waited for a few seconds before asking again, "Tapos na po ba?"
"Malapit na!" my aunt sneered.
I heard my aunt clapping as if she's proud of something.
"Tapos na po ba?"
"Oo!"
Finally!
I squeaked when my aunt turned the soft swivel chair. Ang aking mukha ang una kong nakita.
Is that me?
Ako na ba talaga 'yan?
In fairness, tita's magical skills worked, better than I expected! The power of makeup is evident on my face. Before, my face is like a blank canvas, now, it seems like I'm a work of art from the time of the Renaissance.
My thoughts are interrupted when I heard the door opened, that's probably my mom. Of course, Tita Helena did her makeup.
