"Can't you just tell me now and get it over with?" Mae sighed.
"Some things are better left not said," Niall whispered.
If it hadn't been dead silent in there, Mae would never have heard and the only reason Liam heard it was because of his werewolf hearing.
"And some things are better left not done," she intercepted almost silently.

Niall took care to ensure that Mae wouldn't witness her kind suffering and went to great lengths to make sure that she wouldn't travel through places where fighting, bloodshed and rebellions occurred. She was mad at him enough as is, and having her witness the deaths, and struggles of her kind wouldn't help him gain her favor again.
They have been on tour for a few weeks now, and were currently residing in a blocked off and secured neighborhood in New York. Mae was allowed to go anywhere she pleased within that area, but she had to be accompanied by some sort of guard who would follow her wherever she went. The only place where she could be guaranteed complete privacy and isolation was at the house she chose to reside in while they where there.
The house was on a fairly large piece of land at the far end of the neighborhood and was partially hidden from view by trees. It was a large white and light grey-blue Victorian house, complete with a small tower on the side.
Mae was guaranteed solitude here and she loved that. She did not want any servants or guards, so she did not have any. Not even Liam had to be there to watch over her. No one was there but her. Of course Niall or Liam or Maura or even Mia would come to check up on her, but never for long. They would come, visit, and before she knew it they would be gone and she would be engulfed in her wonderful solitude once again.
But her solitude was not the only thing that she loved about the Victorian property. She also loved how it was built and styled. Yes it was Victorian, but it was not at all old. It was in amazing condition and although it had old fashioned styled furniture and decorations, it was full of modern day necessities as well.
Then also, Mae liked it because she actually felt comfortable and at home there. It was offered to her to have all personal belongings inside the house removed, but she denied the offer. She liked the fact that it had family portraits and pictures on the walls, and that you could tell that someone lived there. It added a cozy family-like feel and made her feel less like the queen that she was.
Whatever family had lived there before, it must have been a large one; for it was a large house, and judging on the set up of bedrooms and the number of people in the pictures, it must have been. From what was in the house, Mae inferred that the family must have consisted of at least a mother, a father, three daughters, a son and a grandfather.
To Mae's delight, the children were into sports and the son had a few skateboards that she could use. Then also, the three daughters' closets offered her more comfortable clothes that weren't nearly as fancy compared to what she had been accustomed to wearing.
On one particular evening she had decided to wear a pair of light gray sweatpants and a dark navy blue tank top. Mae had found a black and white bandana in a costume trunk in the basement it was keeping the loose parts of her messy bun from falling in front of her face. She was lounging on the back porch of the house waiting for the stars to appear so that she could peer at them through a telescope.
A breathe like breeze stirred the leaves on the trees as the day came to an end. Crickets chirped loudly and fireflies silently hummed through the air, but other than that the fading day had a very ominous feel as if something was wrong or out of place. But Mae was too excited to take notice and found the live display before her peaceful. Taking a seat on a lounge chair, she picked up a glass of pink lemonade. It glimmered red in the blue dusk as she brought it to her lips.
