Mae sighed and fell back onto the lounge chair. She calmly fixed her hair and readjusted her bandanna. "That felt good."
"What? Screaming at yourself?"
Mae shot up and eyed her surroundings. The new voice alarmed her, but the person that it belonged to, surprised her even more.
"You're alive?!? But h-how!?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mae stared in wonder and shock at the stranger before her. Well, he wasn't a complete stranger. She knew exactly who he was, what he liked, his name even. But he was a stranger in the sense that she didn't really know him, the real him. She knew all about him, but she didn't know him, therefore he was a stranger.
"Vampire blood," he said simply, making himself comfortable on another lounge chair.
"Huh?"
"Vampire blood," he said again.
"Okay, I'm gonna need a bit more than 'vampire blood'. Could you elaborate a bit more?"
"One day, early on, I came across a dead vampire. It had clearly been killed only recently because although it was cold, it wasn't terribly so and the body was still fresh. I took some of the dead vampires blood and put it in bottles. I mixed it with some natural herbs in a separate batch. I put that on and I smell just like a vampire."
"So you made a cologne out of vampire blood?"
"Yeah . . . I guess you could put it that way."
"And you haven't been discovered?"
"If I had been would I be here now?"
"That is a very unfortunate no. But no matter, you will not be here much longer," said a voice.
The person from which the voice came from jumped at the stranger and it wasn't until he was already on top of the stranger that Mae realized who it was.
"Niall!" Mae yelled.
"I knew I had smelled something," Liam said as he emerged from the darkness.
"You will pay for what you've done!" Niall decreed, his eyes turning red, as he wrestled with the human.
"Liam! Do something!" Mae screeched.
"I'm sorry, Mae. I can't," he said sadly.
"As Queen, I order you to!"
"Your not officially Queen yet."
"LIAM! I still will be Queen and I'm ordering you to do something right now!"
Without another word, Liam went over and untangled Niall from the human stranger.
"How is he so strong? He's a human!" Niall raged.
Mae ran over to the strangers side. "Are you alright?" She asked, but she knew the answer.
The stranger coughed. "My bag."
"What?" Make asked.
"My bag," the stranger coughed again. "Its over there. Bring it to me. Please."
Mae brought the bag over and handed it too him. Weakly, he searched through it until he found what looked like a hip flask.
"Vampire blood!" Niall hissed as the stranger took a sip from it and then Mae took it from him.
"It doesn't smell like blood," she said, sniffing it.
"That's because I mixed it with lots of other stuff to make it taste better," the stranger said.
"Why do you drink it?" She asked.
"To make him stronger," Liam answered.
Mae raised an eyebrow at him. "How do you know that?"
"People do it with werewolf blood too."
"Liam let me go!" Niall said, struggling in Liam's arms.
"No," Mae said quickly before Liam could oblige. "Not unless you promise not to hurt him."
By 'him' she meant the stranger.
"Alright! Alright I won't hurt him!" Niall agreed.
"Okay Liam, let him go."
Niall ran vampire speed at the stranger, grabbing him by the neck and banging him against the wall.
"I'll kill you instead! I'll turn you into a vampire so that I can torture you Defoe as long as I wish! Then I will dispose of you, slowly and painfully!"
"I didn't do anything!" The stranger said.
"You killed a vampire and used their blood to save your own pathetic life," Niall snarled.
"He was already dead!"
"Shut up!" Niall hissed banging the stranger against the wall. The man screamed.
It terrified Mae, this side of Niall. Was this how the rest of the world saw him? Deadly? Menacing? Powerful? With bloodthirsty red eyes and fangs that gleamed eerily with hunger?
"Thats enough. Stop it Niall! Let him go!" Mae cried, breaking into tears.
"NO," he said, anger spitting from his fangs. "I CAN'T WAIT TILL I THRUST MY FANGS INTO YOUR NECK. AND I WON'T KNOCK YOU OUT, SO YOU'LL GET TO FEEL AS NEARLY EVERY ONCE OF BLOOD IS SUCKED FROM YOUR BODY--"
"NIALL!" Mae shrieked, covering her ears and shutting her eyes. "STOP IT! PLEASE JUST STOP!" She wailed, begging and crying.
Niall looked up at her and instantly his eyes turned from bright crimson to pale sky blue.
"I'm so sorry," he said quietly stepping away from the stranger and towards Mae.
She stepped away from him and fell down against the wall.
"No, please, don't be scared," he said, falling to his knees in front of her. She was the only one he'd ever bow down to, the only one he'd ever choose to come second too.
She looked up at him through gentle sobs.
"Don't kill him," she pleaded in a tiny voice.
Niall took her hands in his and Mae shivered at his touch. He wasn't cold. But he should have been. After all, he was dead. He was a vampire.
Niall looked up at Mae shamefully. All that time he had spent trying to convince her that he wasn't really a monster, everything he'd done to hide her from that terrifying aspect of him, it all went down the drain in the blink of an eye.
"Mae . . ." Niall sighed. He wasn't supposed to agree, but he couldn't disagree. If he said no to her request, she would hate him even more.
"Please," she begged. "I don't like being alone."
At that, part of Niall wanted to scream in her face and say 'then why do choose to be alone!? You don't have to be alone, Mae, but you choose to be!' But Niall knew better than to terrifying her even more.
And besides, he knew what she really meant. He knew that even though she did feel alone here, she felt even more alone when she was surrounded by vampires and other mystical creatures. She was tired of being the only human around, and Niall knew that.
After taking one more long look look at Mae, Niall let go and stood up. "Liam, grab the human," he commanded.
"No!" Mae shrieked.
That was when they realized something.
"Niall, he's gone!" Liam exclaimed.
The stranger had disappeared.
Any ideas on who the stranger is? Hmm?
You'll never guess! Haha!
And I bet you can't guess what Niall's decision is either!
I guess, you'll just have to wait and see! Until next chapter! Bye!
