After taking one more long look look at Mae, Niall let go and stood up. "Liam, grab the human," he commanded.

"No!" Mae shrieked.

That was when they realized something.

"Niall, he's gone!" Liam exclaimed.

The stranger had disappeared.

At first Mae was shocked. How? And where did he go? Where could he go?

No, she told herself. It doesn't matter. He's safe. That was what mattered. There was still a chance that she wouldn't have to be alone.

After she told herself that, she watched Niall rage.

"Where is he!? Why can't I smell him!?" Niall's eyes were red again and his fangs were out. He spat with anger as he spoke.

"I can't smell him either," Liam stated calmly as he started investigating the area.

"AARGH!" Niall screamed, as he took his anger out by punching the wall. His fist flew through the wall as if it were made of paper, shattering the wood and sending pieces of drywall flying.

"Hey!" Mae exclaimed. She went over and sadly inspected the hole. It was five inches wide and seven inches tall. She could clearly see the inside of the house. She stuck her arm through the hole. "Damn," she whispered.

But Niall didn't notice.

"FIND HIM," Niall commanded. "FIND HOM NOW. SEND OUT A THOUSAND MEN IF YOU HAVE TO. I HAVE ENOUGH PROBLEMS TO DEAL WITH AS IT IS AND I DO NOT NEED THAT MENACING PEST LOOSE. ESPECIALLY NOT NEAR MY QUEEN. I WANT SECURITY AROUND HERE DOUBLED!"

"What! No!" Mae interrupted.

"SHUTUP," Niall hissed at her. She shrunk back in fear. Niall continued, "FIND HIM! DO WHATEVER IT TAKES, I DONT CARE. AND WHEN YOU DO BRING HIM DIRECTLY TO ME. NOW GO!!"

WIthout another word Niall raced off into the distance.

Liam sighed and slowly approached Mae. She was hyperventilating from terror. "It's okay, it's only me."

That didn't really help.

He stepped up close to her so that he was barely inches from her face. Mae would've shrunken back further but she was already against the wall. But she had nothing to fear, he was only inspecting her eyes and trying to make a sense of her jumble of emotions. Then he stepped back.

His eyes started to glow in the moonlight. "He's not all that bad, really."

Mae didn't believe him. Liam sensed that.

"He does care about you," Liam said.

He scares me, she told him with her eyes.

"Just give him a chance," Liam said. "He loves you." He started to walk away, but then he stopped and turned to add one thing, "And I'll make sure someone fixes that hole in the wall." Then he too raced away into the darkness.

It took Mae a moment to obtain the normal pace of her heart. Then she grunted, "Yeah, right."

She tried to go to sleep but after two hours of tossing and turning she gave up.

"Ugh," she said annoyed.

"What? Having trouble sleeping?"

Mae shot out of bed and turned to face the window where the voice had come from. It took her eyes a moment to adjust to the darkness and recognize the figure in front if her. She smiled.
