Back in the shelter of my hut, I collapsed onto the bed. My entire body was aching from the hike to where we trained. I was drained to the very core not just from practicing my powers but from what Kian had revealed to me.
After he had revealed that Valric was his father, he had put his face in his hands as if ashamed. The soft summer breeze caressed the tall grass around our kneeling forms. Gently I pried his hands from his face. Holding his hands I looked at him steadily.
"It's fine, you're fine." I had said those words with absolute pure honesty. It seemed wrong to see this powerful fae male ashamed because of his father. He would never be his father. He had looked at me then. His green eyes were so alike the grass swaying around us. He cleared his throat taking his hands from mine he stood up, offering a hand to help me up. I had gladly taken it, his hand engulfing my own.
"You're right, thank you."
His voice was raw, as he pulled me up beside of him. He turned to look at the sky now a shade of red and purple with the lowering sun.
"I'll meet you back at the clan," that was the last thing he had voiced to me before changing into his eagle form. I had stood there in silence for minutes staring where he had disappeared in the distance.
But despite saying he would meet me I never saw him when I had walked into the clan. I groaned rolling onto my side, the dimness of the hut was cast in the faint light from the setting sun outside. I stared at the moving shadows in the corners as people passed beside my hut. I held my breath every time as if I thought Kian would be one of those shadows.
That's when my tapestry was pushed aside showing Kian in the dying sun. The colors of midnight blue highlighted his silhouette his pointed ears stood prominent. In his hand was a plate piled high with food.
"What's this?" I asked curiously sitting up in bed, watching as he crossed the few steps toward the bed. Setting the plate next to me he remained standing. The smell of the meat and vegetables wafted up into my nostrils making my stomach rumble with desperate hunger.
"An offer of a truce, more of a friendship," He watched me in the near darkness watching as I inhaled the food.
"Here I thought you were just an arrogant prick," I winked at him teasingly. Kian shifted his weight to another foot. His mouth twitched upwards at the corner.
"Oh I can be," He paused a moment watching me stuff a particular big mouthful of meat into my mouth. "did I tell you I've grown fond of jerky?"
I almost choked on my food. His eyes twinkled with mischief, oh he was an Asshole alright.
"You practically stole my jerky."
"Yes, but I did protect you." He moved to sit at the edge of the bed. With one wave of his hand the candles that were atop my dresser, and small table flared to life. In amazement, I whipped my head back to him, the food being forgotten on my plate.
"I thought you commanded water?"
"I can command both water and fire," His voice had no amount of arrogance. My heart leapt at what he revealed. Was that even possible?
"How?"
"I was born with it, gifted. Just as you were born a shifter gifted the powers of fire from the moon itself."
"You're special like me?" I dared asked not sure if I wanted the answer. Kian opened his mouth to speak.
"Not exactly, I am special in the sense that it's rare for a fae to control two elements. But I'm not chosen like you, I'm no Moon Child." I grimaced at him, the moon's silvery haze danced with the lit candles to help illuminate the hut.
