The car ride was silent.
The driver often turned to look at me and I know he wanted to ask if I was okay. I wasn't but who was he to know that?
I stepped out of the cab as we arrived at the airport and thanked him. For an flight, I was severely overdressed. Dark navy ripped jeans with nude Loubs, a nude shirt and a black Celiné bag. My cut hand had resulted in a few blood spots at the base of my shirt. I tried my best to rub but it only made it worse.
I began furiously rubbing at my shirt before I caught people staring. I didn't need my name in the magazine and on the blog sites as "Drake crazy girlfriend goes mental at the airport" I had enough to deal with.
And I didn't need Aubrey knowing where I was.
I walked into the airport, my strides long and my head fuzzy. I located the Air Canada desk and set my bag down. The blonde bitch behind the desk sucked her teeth in, clearly not expecting any checking in passengers.
"Yes?"
I blinked a few times, convinced she wasn't talking to me like that.
"Me?" I asked.
"Yes who else would I be..."
I cut her off immediately. Her crystal blue eyes shone bright with an unreadable emotion.
Was I about to read her?
100%.
"First of all....uh what is it?...Janet.. What you're not going to do is act like you had more important things to do before I got here. Cos your ass was sitting here having a lil ol gossip right? THATS the shit you get paid for?"
She stared at me in disbelief. Her eyes grew hard as if to retaliate. But it wasn't as if I was going to let her.
"What you are the fuck going to do is tell me when the next flight to LA is. I want first class all inclusive next to a window. And before you tilt your large ass head down so you can look down your crooked, off coloured nose at me, I have the funds to pay for it. CASH.
Not that it was any of YOUR business how I wished to pay for MY flight anyway. And what you are also going to do is not breathe nor utter another word in my presence until the transaction is done and you whisper 'good evening have a nice flight.' Is that clear?"I should've regretted it but I didn't.
How was I supposed to ?
When the man I loved had set me alight from the inside burning out. I watched Janet carefully as she asked for my passport. I never left home without it.
After the transaction was done. I picked up my bag as she handed me my ticket and passport and I proceeded to walk away.
"Ma'am," she called out after me. I turned around to see her staring coldly at me.
"good evening, have a nice flight." She uttered.
I flashed her a thousand watt smile and gave her a small wink. I'd dragged her and felt no way about it. I didn't intend to make it a habit however.
I made my way to the first class lounge, killing time with a massage and a cute meal. Calamari with fries and a large glass of rosé. Soon we were called for boarding and I made my way to my seat.
A window one just like I'd asked. My bed was already laid out for me and I intended to sleep as i always did on flights, to stop my mind from working overtime.
Because all overtime ever did for me was have me doing work I shouldn't have done.
