"You don't get it," she said into the phone. "I need him."
"Yes, I know that. And yes, I will take good care of him. Don't worry; nothing is going to happen to him under my watch."
I sat up straight, grimacing at the pain from my arm. I could still taste the vile powder in my mouth. She turned, gave me an unwelcoming look.
"Okay, I'll get back to you." She stood up, her eyes on me. She tossed the phone onto the chair where she had been sitting. "Get up," she barked. The stern look on her face said everything-she was not someone you could mess with.
I glanced up at her. Her sandy brown hair was pulled back into a ponytail, loose bangs shadowing her face. There was a long, ugly scar running down her left cheek. Her eyes were a light green colour, and they seemed to burn with intensity as she stared coldly at me. She was actually beautiful, if she wasn't looking at me that way. "Did you hear me or not?"
"Okay, I'm up," I raised my hands in surrender as I stood up. My legs felt shaky, probably the side effects of the poison that almost paralyzed me completely.
"You're weak," she smirked. "If I hadn't found you, you would be dead by now."
"You mean like him." I turned to the man she had killed not long ago. A pool of blood had formed beneath his big body.
She gave me a half-smile. It was as if she was pleased that she had killed someone.
"Then why did you save me? Why didn't you just leave me there to die?" I asked. "I was ready to die anyway," I lied, averting her gaze.
"You don't know, do you?" she sighed deeply, and shook her head.
"What the hell did you mean when you said that you needed me?" The more I thought about what she had said, the more confused I became. "And I have no idea about anything, so how am I supposed to know what the hell you're talking about?"
"Fool," she rolled her eyes. I hated her at that instant.
"Tell me," I said. "Tell me everything."
"Not just yet," she reached out, and grabbed my arm. At the exact spot where the knife had struck me. I cried out in pain, cursing at her. "Shut up, will you?" she glared at me. "I have to get you out of here. Before they find you."
"Who's they?" I managed to shrug myself out of her grip. She didn't reply. I had a feeling in my gut that whoever they were, they definitely weren't ever going to let me go if they had me.

"I would never let you go. Ever," I said, placing my hand over hers.
She gave me an angelic smile. Leaning forward, she gave me a brief peck on the cheek. "I wouldn't too," she whispered.
I smiled back at her. I could feel my heartbeat quicken as she leaned closer towards me. "Remember the day we met?" I asked.
"How could I forget? You fell off your bike, and I helped you up. I can still remember the look on your face," she began to laugh.
"It was a surprised look," I said, feeling myself beginning to crack up.
"No. It was a look of terror. You looked as if you'd seen a ghost."
"No it wasn't," I protested.
