“What the-” Jacque leant forward, reading the headlines again and again.

Body of man found, believed to be mauled by a wild animal.

“Another animal attack?” Kora was beside him, sipping on her cup of coffee. “This is getting out of hand, isn’t it?”

“No, it can’t be,” Jacque had a confused look on his face. “That was the guy you killed. The guy I dumped at the back of the house. How did he get all the way out there?”

“He didn’t die,” Kora realized. “That could only mean one thing-he’s one of them for sure. Nobody could survive that.”

“Then…who killed him for good this time?” Jacque turned to look at her.

“I’m guessing it’s them. They killed one of their own kind.”

“You’re saying they’re taking our side?”

“No, what I’m saying is, whoever gets in their way will be killed, no matter what.”

“What makes you think that?” Jacque frowned.

“They’re beasts, Jacque. They destroy anything that gets in their way.”

A loud bang startled them both.

“Someone’s at the door,” Kora said, placing down her cup. “I’ll get it.”

“No, I’ll get it,” Jacque stood up hurriedly. He went to the front door, and opened it a fraction.

A hand shot out, grabbed his throat, and tugged forward, ramming his head against the door. Jacque fell to the ground, bleeding from the cut on his forehead.

“Jacque!” Kora sensed trouble. Whoever that was at the front door definitely did not come for a tea party.

The hinges began to creak as a series of deafening blows landed repeatedly against the wooden door. Jacque stood, and the door burst open, shredded pieces of wood flying all over the place.

Two figures stepped in through the damaged door, their faces as furious as ever, savage looks in their eyes.

“Well, look who’s come to play,” Jacque smiled at the two men before him. “I’ve been expecting you.”

I was something else. I was something different. It was an eerie feeling- being transferred into another body that didn’t belong to you.

“Well…” I caught sight of Seth out the corner of my eye. My vision was a million times better than before-a speck of dust became visible. “You’ve turned into the beast you really are.”

I was wondering what he meant, and that was when I looked down at my feet, and was greeted by the most unusual thing. In place of my feet were black paws, like that of a cat. I retracted and released my claws, and there was a sinking feeling in my gut.

Had I really turned into this? Had I…Had I turned into a wild animal?

“You’ve lost, Jared. Face it, you have no control over yourself. I know you can hear me in there. Too bad you can’t control the monster inside you,” Seth laughed, prodding me with the samurai sword.

I growled, surprised at the sound.

“You may be strong, but if you can’t control the beast, it will take over your human mind, and then you will never have existed. Try moving, because I know you can’t,” he grinned teasingly at me. “Go on, try it.”

I felt strong, so strong there was this ball of energy inside of me that didn’t stop the power surging through me. I felt indestructible, immortal.
