"What the hell?' I blinked. The sudden flash of light blinded me. And then I realized I was in a room. A hospital ward, judging from all the white walls.

"You're up!" a familiar voice startled me.

"Jayden?" I squinted at my younger brother. "Is that you?"

"Of course it's me," my fourteen year old brother grinned. "I can't believe you're okay. Mum has been worried sick. Even I have been worried about you."

"Where's mum?" I tried to sit up. "How did I get here?"

"A nurse found you outside the building. You told her you walked here all by yourself," Jayden replied. He frowned at me. "You don't remember?"

I shook my head. Since when did I walk here? How did I know where to go? And where was Kora? I held my head in my hands, feeling dizzy again.

"Are you okay?" I glanced up, smiled weakly when I saw my mother's concerned face. "Oh, God, I've missed you." She hugged me tight.

"I'm fine, Mum. Don't worry."

"You don't look fine to me," Jayden stood up to let Mum sit on the chair beside my bed. "You've been missing for two days, brother."

"Where have you been?" Mum asked. "You just disappeared without a word. What happened?"

I sighed, propped myself up with the pillow. "I was just... I just needed some alone time," I lied. I couldn't tell them that I was running from the people who were trying to kill me. "I'm sorry I made you worried."

"You're sick, Jared. You can't just take off without telling us," Mum took my hand. "What if something bad happened to you?"

Things have already got worse. I'm on the run for my life. I wanted so badly to say it out. But I couldn't. "I'm fine, Mum," I squeezed her hand reassuringly.

"I'm sorry to interrupt, but we have to do a thorough check up on your son," a nurse informed my mother.

"I'll see you later," Mum forced a smile at me. Her eyes welled up with tears, and she left the room before I could say anything. My brother followed, closing the door behind him.

"Did I really walk here?" I asked the nurse as soon as they were gone.

"The hell you did," the nurse said, and pulled off her mask. "And you left me behind." My eyes widened at the sight of her face.

"Kora?" I gasped.

"Shut up," she bit back a smile. I was beginning to like her. She yanked off the wires strapped to my skin. "Let's go."

Kora slipped an arm around my waist, guided me quickly to the elevator. My legs were numb-I couldn't even stand upright. "Hurry up," she shoved me into the elevator as soon as the door opened. I stumbled, fell back against the wall.

"What did they inject me with?" I slurred. I was feeling faint.

"Some sort of anesthetic," she stabbed on the button leading us to the ground floor. "Don't worry, you'll be fine."

"Really? Cause I feel like my head is about to explode."

We stepped out, glancing around to see if we were being followed. "This way," Kora whispered. There was no one around.

"Kora, look," my mouth was dry when I saw the body sprawled face down in a pool of blood on the white marble floor. A spear, identical to the one that had killed the bear in the woods, stuck out gruesomely from the man's neck.

Kora cursed loudly. "We have to get out of here. Fast. They're closer than you think."

I didn't have to be told twice. I definitely did not want to end up dead with a spear in my neck.
