I woke up to the sound of banging around. My eyes slowly opened to see Luke scrambling around the room, gathering up clothing into two bags. He didn't notice as I slowly sat up to watch him. After he had finished filling up one of the bags, he left down the hall. I sighed and got out of bed to follow him. He had gone into the bathroom, grabbing assorted toiletries to toss into the only open bag left. As he turned to leave the bathroom, he saw me in the doorway and jumped.
"Sorry, did I wake you?" he questioned, cocking his head to the side.
I nodded. "Yeah, kind of."
"Well, I was going to be waking you up right about now anyway." he told me, guiding me out of his way with his arm.
"Why?" I wondered.
It still looked like it was dark outside. There was no way it was anywhere near morning. What time was it, anyway?
"Someone saw what I did to those guys," he explained quickly, packing away the bottles and brushes before zipping the bags closed and straightening out to his full height. He turned around to face me. "They contacted the police."
"If I told the police about some kid controlling people with his mind powers, I'm almost positive I'd get sent to the Wacky Shack." I scoffed.
"No, Jemma, they know about me," he said urgently. "They haven't really seen my face, but they've seen the glowing eyes, the levitation; everything. They've been searching close to here and they'll be searching around here soon. We need to leave."
"To where?" I asked as he picked up the two bags and headed out of the room, making sure the lights were off.
"I have these friends who can help us," he began, running down the stairs as fast as he could. I tried to keep up, but I was still incredibly tired. "There's another path to get out of here. It's through the woods, but it heads in the opposite direction the police are. It's a little bit of a walk, but we should make it to Calum's and Mikey's cars by two o'clock."
"In the morning?" I gasped.
"Jemma, it's only one-forty," he informed me. "Anyway, one we get there, I want you to go with Mikey, okay? Just in case the police find us, I don't want you getting caught. If we don't, which I we probably won't, they'll bring us to the same place. We're going to be brought to my friend Ashton's house. We set up his attic in case anything like this happened. We can stay there."
"And if you do get caught?" I questioned.
Luke opened the door and peered outside. The cold wind slapped at my body, making me wish once again I didn't wear this stupid shirt. Luke looked back at me. "If I do, Mikey will take you to Ashton's himself. They'll take care of you until I can get out. More than likely, Ashton and Mikey will go and try to help if I'm gone for more than a day. Calum will stay up in the attic with you if you need him to."
"Do I have to stay in the attic the whole time?" I almost whined.
"Do you want to get caught?" he quizzed.
"No."
"Then yes."
He stepped out of the door, waving me to follow after him. He flicked the kitchen light off before he closed the locked door. The door would give us time to get to the cars. He grabbed my hand and ran with me to the back of the house. We made it to the edge of the woods on the left side of the house towards the back. He set the bags down and unzipped them as slowly and quietly as he could manage. He tossed me one of his jackets and helped me get it on. Then he handed me the bags before lifting me up and carrying me into the thick brush.
"I can walk, you know," I informed him. "I know I'm slower than you, but I-"
"It's so they won't find two sets of footprints," he chuckled. "Trust me, Jemma I know how capable you are of getting away. But I don't want you getting in trouble too."
