Blaring sounds filled the room as Mark squinted from obnoxious beeping. Mark put the alarm on silent and curled up under his covers to hide from the piercing sunlight. Right after thinking he wouldn't have to get up though, Mark heard the creaking of his door slowly open.

"Mark! What are you doing, you're going to be late to your first day of your new highschool!" Said Marks mother, obviously still tired from this morning.

Mark ignored what his mother had said and rolled around in his bed. Ever since his family had moved to L.A earlier this summer, the last thing he wanted to do was go to a new school and try to make new friends. He found himself stripped of his covers though as chills went up his back from the cold air of his fan.

"What was that for?!" Mark said his mother with an annoyed tone.

" I already told you Mark, don't make this difficult for me sweetie." Marks mother said, forcing a fake smile, trying to not upset.

"Can't I just be homeschooled mom, I found some websites I think-" Mark said while shuffling his computer open only to be interrupted.

"Mark please, I know you're nervous but you never know, maybe you'll make some new friends and have a really good time. I know it's hard going into a new building you're not used to but can you atleast do this, for me?"

Mark gave a small sigh, he knew he wasn't going to win this battle after all. He got up and went to go get ready for the new day.

-----

"Mark! Do you want any breakfast?" Marks mother yelled from downstairs.

Mark was still making sure he had everything he needed, but decided to still go down and see what was prepared for him. He pulled up a wooden chair and sat down to be given a plate of eggs and toast. Mark stared at the plate blankly, butterflies were already filling up his stomach to the point where he wasn't even slightly hungry. He felt the warmth from the eggs hit his face as he blankly stared.
What was he even so afraid of? Not making any friends, having bad grades, being bullied, getting heartbroken? Mark shook his head, the thought of all those things only made him feel worse. He picked up the plate and put the meal in a small plastic bin for later when his mother wasn't looking.

Grabbing his bag, Mark was about to go out and getting going to his new highschool, when a red color caught the side of his eye. It was his lucky flannel, laying on the edge of the couch where he had left it yesterday. He thought to himself until deciding to take it along with him. He wrapped it around his waist and stepped outside, clicking the door shut behind him. Hopping into the car, Mark could feel a slight heat sensation from the black leather seat he was on burning him, but he didn't notice at all, so many other things were on his mind.

Mark rolled down the window to let the breeze hit his face, although being in L.A for a couple months, Mark never really looked outside to notice everything around him. Despite it being early in the morning, the place was buzzing with people all around. Bright billboards, graffiti, and street preformers filled around the area. Mark put his hand on his chin and stared out the window, looking at all the things he had never noticed before being here. Mark gave a small smile, something about the atmosphere gave him a calm feeling, it made him feel more welcome somehow.

His hair flailed around, he felt as if he was in own world as he could hear the music from the radio past through his ears softly. It was all died down however when Mark heard the car slow down. He broke out of his dazed state to see a tall brick building in front of him. Marks felt his whole body pale up as he saw people left and right chatting and walking around, it was as if everyone knew eachother, expect for Mark.

"Have a good first day sweetie" Marks mother said with a kind tone.

Mark struggled to say anything back, he was starting to feel more sick than he ever had. He could tell anxiety was getting the best of him, but he tried not to show it. He stepped out of the car and looked back to his mother, trying not to show his fear.

"I love you" Mark said softly with a small, crooked smile.

He watched his mother drive away and turned around to look at the tall building. Mark took a single breath and made his first into the new area.
