The shock that went through my body when I saw the person the voice belonged to suoerceeded anything I'd ever felt in my life
"Jace?" I cried, running to him.
"Surprise?" He smiled. He's been through what looks like hell but he's smiling.
"What happened to you?" I was almost crying. He was really thin, heaps of cuts and bruises. Only an echo of what he was, "Come here"
I took his forearm and drew the strongest healing rune I knew. Almost at once, the smaller of the cuts began to sew themselves together and the bruises began to fade.
"Well, I thought I'd heard something odd outside, so I went out to check it out. And then someone hit me on the side of my head. I woke up in an old hotel, with a bunch of vampires. Then comes the interrogation, and the bite. I was bitten but no venom came out of the bloodsuckers fangs so I'm fine."
"Don't you ever go missing on me again! Jace, you do realize the Shadowhunters are on the brink of war?" I asked him
"Yeah, and so are the Downworlders. They fear the thing who's gonna wipe us out because they know very well it has the capability to do the same to them" He said, in a very didn't-you-know-that tone.
"Oh god no. Yet more apocalyptic news. This day could not get any worse" I said, offering my hand to Jace, who got up.
"Actually, it probably can" Jace muttered from behind me, indicating towards my back, I turned.
Three vampires stood in the way of the alley. It's no use running the other way, they'll just outrun us.
"What do you want?" I asked them
"Help" One of them said, "the ones who are siding with HIM are trying to kill the non believers. We need a place to hide"
"I can't do anything! The institute is hallowed ground and no vampire can go there!" I said dumbfounded.
"Not without angel's blood. Then we're valid" The vampire grinned menacingly.
It ran with remarkable sped and bowled me over.
Pinning my arms down, it was much too strong. I couldn't fight it. It bit my neck, right on my juglar vein.
I screamed out in sheer terror and pain, as I could feel the blood being drained. After a few seconds, it released its grip on me.
"Thanks love" it said as it walked away knowing it now could take the institute for itself.
And I was left bleeding to death on the sidewalk. Again.
"Jace?" I cried out weakly
"Imogene? Imogene!" He screamed, running over to me
He drew out his stele and drew a rune over the wound, healing it as fast as it was made
"So now we're even?" Jace said, smiling down at me
"Even" I said, Jace helping me up
"But now we've got to do something about those vampires who've gone to the institute! The portal is there and we can't let them use it to go somewhere we wouldn't want them to go like Idris!" Jace pointed out.
"Okay, let's dash. If that's the case, time isn't on our side"
And then we ran into the night, back to the institute.
