*WARNING* Graphic descriptions of violence and mutilation ahead. DISCLAIMER. Not all the characters and settings in this fanfic belong to me, some are the work of the forever brilliant and wonderful Cassandra Clare. Okay, Enjoy!
I stood at the height of Idris, staring down at the chaos which had ended. It had ended in the subsequent defeat of the Demons.
But not without sacrifice did the shadowhunters win this battle.
The current death toll was 1000, and counting. And the people I lost, well, People would never had wanted to loose.
Ava, killed in hiding. She had hidden away, but only to be found 3 days later with detrimental injuries, and disfigurements to her face and torso. Her corpse didn't even look human or shadowhunter, it was a large slab of mutilated meat, with a missing arm and eaten out insides. When Matt saw his sister, because he long knew she was dead from the lack of Parabatai mark, broke down. Georgia has had to stay with Matt for the past week.
Jack. Killed in action, by a ravener demon. It left a large burn hole where it spat on him. Ravener spit is high in acid and other demonic properties, enough to burn through any flesh, even shadowhunter.
And Max. He got in the way, and was killed by the knife of his own sister. Isabelle has been inconsolable, so I have kept her company. Well, myself and Jace. She hasn't been able to stop seeing the blood of her brother dripping from her hands.
As for Jace and I? I suppose after what happened you could say we're somewhat "official", but we haven't had much time alone after all that's happened. We haven't even had time to think about it, to be perfectly honest.
We are set to return to New York tomorrow morning. Everyone is staying in the hall, one of the only buildings still standing.
I walk down from the top of the hall, down through the spiral staircase. The scene downstairs could be even more frightful than the crumbling city on the balcony.
The crying and smell of stale blood was the first thing I noticed.
I walked through the wallowing crowd, to our corner. Jace and Isabelle looked at me, acknowledging my arrival
"Hey Gen" Isabelle greeted me. Everyone had begun to shorten my name to either "Gen" or "Genny", maybe because Imogene was a mouthful to say to get my attention quickly.
"Hello my beautiful heroine" Jace said jokingly, pecking me on the cheek
"Hello to you too. How's everyone been?" I said, crouching down to sit with them
"Okay. Matt's come to accept Ava's death, he's just still a bit on edge. Well, I can't blame him, who wouldn't be in a situation like this." Jace reported
"And I'm a bit better" Isabelle said "just the guilt, that's all"
Isabelle attempted to smile a bit, until she began to sob uncontrollably
"Hey, hey, shhh. It's okay, it wasn't your fault. You didn't put Max in the way" I said to her, trying to console her. She curled up in my arms and continued to sob
"Will we ever be able to rebuild all this? What we've lost?" Jace asked
"I'm not sure," I said, "maybe someday, but no time soon"
