Close Call

As you wandered into your school, early as always, you wondered if your best friend would be there already. You had to be at school earlier than everyone else due to your parents commute schedule. And by early, it was usually 45 minutes before the first bus arrived. However, thing's never became boring or lonely because your best friend would meet you at the school early so he could keep you company. He lived close by so he didn't mind. You had one class together and were in different friendship groups so seeing each other in the morning kept you close.

You and your best friend had this undeniable chemistry. Though neither of you admitted it.  You were naturally flirty with guys but with Dan you were more flirty than usual. You told yourself you didn't 'like' him and you were pretty sure he'd never 'like' you so you just kept it casual.

'Sup short ass' Dan greeted you. As Dan was like a giant, you were short compared to him. Well to be honest, you were short compared to the normal person so that would make you tiny compared to Dan. You chuckled.

'Alright dick head' You replied. This was what you did, just insulted each other but you knew it was banter. You both walked into the school gates and to your usual spot. The foyer for the sports hall. It was a warm place to go that not many teachers (if any were about) would go.

'Well yeah I guess, I really can't be dealing with double maths today' Dan sighed.

'When can you ever be dealing with any lessons?' You replied sassily. Dan faked being offended. 'Hush shorty, I can sometimes' Dan smirked.

You glanced into the doors of the sports hall. You saw that the chairs were set out ready for an assembly later that morning. 'Urgh' you groaned.

'I don't know why you're groaning, it's wednesday today meaning it's my groups assembly' Dan blankly stated. You glanced up at him and took back your groan.

You both stood there for a while before you had an idea. 'Shall we explore the sports hall?' You asked, more excited than necessary.
'Am I really that boring that we have to resort to exploring our school y/n?' Dan asked jokingly. You tugged on Dan's arm and pulled him into the sports hall. 'Woah it's dark' you stated. Dan just stared at you with an expression saying 'well done captain obvious'.

You glanced to your right as you saw a giant cupboard door open. This was where all the assembly chairs were kept and you had never seen inside of it when it wasn't jam packed with chairs.

'Oh oh oh!! Let's go in here' you smirked at Dan. Dan nodded and followed you in. You grabbed your phone from your pocket and turned on your torch as it was darker in the cupboard. You and Dan shuffled around the small space, muttering insults and private jokes between one another. You turned around suddenly to sassily insult Dan when you noticed he was right behind you.

'Uh-oh-urh-urm sorr-' you began to stutter, being this close to Dan. You had hugged Dan before and stuff but this time you were close, it was different. There was tension. Sexual tension.

Dan began to exhale slowly. 'It's okay y/n. I was urh - to close anyway'

You glazed your eyes over Dan's torso and up towards his face. Stopping when your eyes met his lips then trailing up to his eyes then back down to his lips. You began to bite your lip. Dan slowly inhaled and exhaled again, moving microscopically closer to you.

You stared blankly into Dan's eyes. The tension rose even more and an urge within you wanted to just kiss him. The fear of rejection stopped you.

You heard the sports hall doors open and then shut. This broke the tension between you and Dan.

'Shit' you whispered. 'How are we going to get out without it looking suspicious'

Dan walked out casually, he saw a young girl sat at the front of the hall. 'Oh hey, sorry, i'm looking for my sports kit, have you seen it on your travels?' Dan asked nonchalantly. You clicked on to what Dan was trying to do. He was trying to set the scene, so it looked like you were in the cupboard innocently. The girl shyly replied saying she hadn't seen the kit and Dan nodded. 'Ah well thank you anyway' Dan smiled at the girl.

'It's not back here Dan!' You shouted out as you slowly walked into the sports hall where the girl and Dan were stood. 'Never mind, let's go look elsewhere shall we y/n?' Dan smirked at you. You both walked towards the side exit of the sports hall as Dan said goodbye to the younger girl.

You and Dan both exhaled quickly and chuckled.

'That was such a close call' You said in a breathy laugh.

'We better be more careful next time then' Dan smirked.
