The long, horrible school day came to a close. Your mind was jam packed with what had happened throughout the day and yet one thing stuck in particular. Your little incident with Dan earlier stayed in your mind throughout the whole day.
"We better be more careful next time then"
His words echoed through the gaps in your mind that wasn't filled by school work. The smirk on his face stayed printed in your mind like a poster and you just couldn't seem to shake the feeling you had in that moment with him. You still denied having feelings for him, probably from a fear of rejection but nonetheless you were adamant you did not like him. Not in that way at least.
As the bell rung throughout the emptying corridors and hallways. Wandering to your usual spot, you placed your bag down before exiting slowly out of school. You had to wait for your parents to pick you up, a similar amount of time that you had to wait in the mornings.
Dan would sometimes wait with you if he didn't have other commitments and you were never sure if he would wait. It was usually a surprise greeting when you visited the local sweet shop down the road from the village high school (the one you attend). Everyone goes here after school, it's like a routine thing. As you walked past the teachers that waited by the gate for home time and made your way down the long stretch of path, your mind instantly cleared of school work that once filled your thoughts. However it was still attached on Dan's words, face, everything.
Your mind seemed to pace back and forth, over every tiny second in that one situation. It wasn't that you were obsessed with him. It was that you questioned if he felt the same in that exact moment. Whether he had the burning desire to kiss you as much as you wanted to kiss him. You tried, though failing majorly, to shrug things off and act as though there was nothing to the situation.
You arrived to the shop, counting your small amount of change before entering the shop. Your mind was so hazy that you didn't even observe the surrounding people outside the shop, like you usually would. To see if Dan was waiting for you. You picked up some Skittles before paying and leaving the shop. Immediately, you headed naturally in the direction for school, yet you were stopped.
"Oi! Y/N!" Dan called out.
You came to a halt, before spinning around on your front half of your feet. You smiled softly at the sight of Dan, yet seeing him with his friends made that smile drop quickly. You walked over slowly before responding to his call.
"Yeah?"
"You gotta wait tonight?"
"As always"
"Alright" Dan nodded. He turned to his friends while turning his back on you.
"...Guys, i'll see you tomorrow!"
"Come on then you" Dan nudged your arm and began walking with you back to school. He made your mind race, yet again, for the 50th time today.
"You"
It made you melt but also slap yourself mentally. Stop it y/n. Friends. Friends is what you are.
As you walked down the long stretch of path back to the school for the second time today, you noticed a bench which you pointed at to Dan and you both began to gravitate towards. You jumped on top of the bench before doing a silly dance. Dan chuckled at you before walking closer to you.
"Hey! Look! I'm your height for once" you laughed.
"Not for long" Dan smirked as he came close to you.
He wrapped his arms around the top half of your legs and just under your bum, lifting you lightly and sliding you down his frame so you were basically face to face.
Silence filled the small gap between your two faces before you felt his breath hitch lightly. Your eyes met in a trance where you both seemed as though you feared the rejection of what could happen next.
"Oi oi Dan!" Dan's friend called out from across the road.
The eye contact that was once there was broken and you felt yourself slide down the rest of his frame before your feet met the floor. Your mind was a mess, thoughts flooded as your vision felt blurry. Your ears felt blocked as you couldn't hear the communication between Dan and his friend.
*time skip*
You sat outside on the dry grass by the school gates with Dan after collecting your bag. You anxiously pulled away at the grass as you felt his eyes beam onto you.
"What perfume do you wear?"
You frowned at Dan before slurring out the start of your response.
"W-w-whyy?" You dragged it out, in a confused tone.
"You smell good"
You chuckled at Dan's response as he began to continue.
"When you were in my arms, you smelt good"
"Riiiight" you nodded before smiling and looking back down at your lap.
*another time skip because lol idk i just wanna add this last idea and it needs a time skip*
After you arrived home, you and Dan would usually text for most of the night. It was just harmless banter and flirting but today it didn't feel like the ordinary.
As you laid down on your bed, opening your bag to lay your homework out for the evening, you glimpsed as your phone lit up, with that familiar name.
>> Dan
"That was twice today we got a little closer than normal...">> You
"Oh yeah I had noticed, and twice that we got interrupted">> Dan
"Shame I think, don't you?">> You
"I suppose..">> Dan
"Y/N..."Your mind froze as you decided to delay replying for a minute. As you went to pick up your phone to reply, another text buzzed through.
>> Dan
"You know that I like you right?"______________________
