Sara-Jo
Why am I driving my twenty-one year old brother, Seogoong around? Shouldn't it be the other way around? He's too busy on his cell phone listening to music. Sure, let the eighteen year old drive you around Seoul. Let me take you to your work. How mature of him.
Our red mini van mom gave us is in a need of some new parts. He refuses to pay for those parts of course. My brother, that is. Instead, I have to pay for them. I have to pay for the car to get fixed. The younger one in the family. The youngest, might I add.
Then, my brother flipped his golden hair so he could look at me in a disgusted way with his large, brown eyes. "I wish you would stop wearing that around. You're in a very popular girl group, aren't you afraid of what people will think?" I laugh and look down at my clothes. I'm wearing a tight, white tank top that is so long, it hides about half of my navy blue gym shorts. I'm wearing a short sleeve, navy blue, summer sweatshirt over it. We stop at a red light and I look down at my favorite new shoes Seogoong bought me. They're bright orange, Nike Air Max's. My favorite brand of shoes.
The light turns green and I look back up. "I mean, at least try to be a bit more modest with your shirts. Your flat stomach just makes those things sticking out of your chest look larger." I try not to laugh. My brother tries to be a gentleman, but fails most of the time. Then, he reaches out his hand to my long, wavy, mousy brown hair. "You're hair needs to be straightened or something. I hate it when you leave it natural like this." Now he's just insulting me.
Another red light. I look over at my brother. "Says the guy who just got dumped by his girlfriend he had for only one week. Why are you even talking about this with me? I mean, why do you care? It's 2013, not 1913. I'm eighteen! I can make some of my own choices." He sat back in the seat, folded his arms, and pouted. That's right brother, pout, just like you always do.
I dropped Seogoong off at Stardom Entertainment. "Why aren't you getting out? Don't you have to meet the girls of your new group?" I tilted my head from side to side. "Yeah, but I want a piece of candy, I'm hungry." He pointed at my stomach. "Shouln't you be eating healthier. You never know, you might not have that forever." I started the car and straightened my lips. "Get off my vehicle." He smiled at me and ran to the doors.
He knew I was serious that I would drive away with him standing right in front of the tire. He wouldn't move out of my way in the parking lot once. I drove the car slowly up to him and pushed him back a bit. He's been afraid of me ever since.
I drove over to the market across the street. I call it, the candy store because they sell really yummy old fashioned candy there.
I've been buying candy here since my mother died and my father made us move here. She was American, and he was Korean. I have her giant, blue, American eyes. A lot of people thinking I'm pretty when I have my hood up. I hate my hair. Got that from my mother too. I just leave it alone because the company doesn't want me to change it. I was a little upset. I do have my father's nose though and his skin color.
I walk into the store and the cashier greets me just like he always does. Another reason why I come here: the cashier is in love with me and pays for my candy. I've known him for a while. Well, I've recognized him for a while. I always forget his name. It's really long and annoying. I just call him Jo.
I walk into the candy section, grab a box of Charleston chews, and walk to the cash register. Jo smiles at me creepily. I give him a fake smile back. I put my candy down, but he's still staring at me. Two customers walk in and giggle when they see us. I roll my eyes and pat on the candy. Jo is still staring at me. The customers are watching and staring at us. What's their problem. Then, I lift up the candy in my hand. I swing back and the box makes contact with Jo's face. He finally stops smiling.
