Krystine's POV

No. Not another needle. Haven't I been put through enough stress already? Bones placed his hand on top of mine. This was going, in my hand?

"Krystine, this is the last one, I promise." Bones said softly. I felt the metal rod being inserted in my hand. I, once again having a panic attack, started screaming. I felt so lightheaded to the point that I thought I was going to faint. But I couldn't. I couldn't fall asleep. I wasn't allowed. Bones grabbed stitches, gauze, and medical tape from the side table. Suddenly, I was feeling very drowsy. I couldn't stay awake any longer. My vision was becoming blurry and I shut my eyes, falling into a deep sleep.

Kirk's POV

Finally. We landed in the underground runway at Starfleet Headquarters. The rest of the crew got off the ship, and I made my way to the med bay. I walked into the private room and saw Bones, Spock, and Chekov standing off to one side, and Krystine sleeping on the bed.

"Well?" I whispered to Bones.

"She's all fixed up. The melatonin should wear off soon." He responded.

"And wow you got the needles in."

"Huh yeah, it took the three of us but I managed."

"Your eardrums aren't busted?"

"Luckily not." He finished.

"We shall leave you two. We will meet you at the gala building." Spock said, then turned and walked out of the room, Chekov following him.

"Oh yeah, her graduation ceremony. Complements of the crew." Bones said, smiling.

"Yes. When she wakes up we'll take her there. She'll be so happy." I said, looking at my daughter.

I noticed she was starting to stir so I walked over to the side of the bed. Bones walked over to the other side.

Krystine's POV

Reality was flowing back into my brain. I slowly opened my eyes, and saw my dad on one side of me, Bones on the other.

"Hey, you made it." My dad said, clutching my hand.

"See? You made it through two needles." Bones commented.

"I hate you." I said, smirking at Bones.

"Oh doesn't everyone?" He said laughing.

"That I can tell you is true." My dad told him, snickering at his comment.

I remembered the conversation Chekov and I had in the forest, and remembered how I wanted to know about my mother. Now seemed like the perfect opportunity to ask my dad.

"Dad?"

"Yes?" He replied.

"Can you tell me about my mom?" I asked.

He paused for a moment, thinking about what I had asked him.

"Go on, tell her Jim. I'll wait outside the door." Bones piped in.

"Alright. You want to know the truth?" My dad asked.

"Yes. The cold hard truth. Don't leave anything out." I said.

My dad let out a sigh. "I was thirteen. I was friends with your mother. Her name was Claudia Perry. One day her and I went out for a walk. She started talking about children. I told her we were way too young to even think about that. She dropped the topic and asked what we should do because it was getting dark. I suggested my house for a movie. She agreed to the idea and off we went. We went to the basement and started looking for a movie. I can't remember what it was called but we were about halfway into it and I fell asleep on the couch. I woke up and it was morning, and Claudia was gone. After that we didn't see or talk to each other for the next nine months. One day she called me and told me to come to the hospital. I had no idea what was going on so in a panic, I got there as fast as I could. I was directed to the third floor, where I found her standing by a large glass window."

I could see my dad starting to tear up. He cleared his throat and continued.

"I walked over to her and looked through the glass. I saw a room full of cribs with newborns in them. She told me the first one on the left was ours. My jaw dropped in shock. That's what happened while I was asleep. She then proceeded to tell me that you were in a coma and the doctors didn't know when you would wake up. She told me she couldn't take care of you and she never wanted to see me again. She then walked out of the hospital, leaving me standing there. I knew I couldn't just leave you there so I took it upon myself to care for you. I just couldn't send you to an orphanage. I wouldn't be able to live with myself. Seven years passed and you finally woke up from the coma. At first, you didn't seem to care that it was just me looking after you. Eventually as you got older, you kept wanting to know about your mother, Claudia Perry. I knew I had to tell you at some point. I just wanted to tell you when you were old enough to understand. And now, I see that you are."

I didn't know what to say. Or think. That was the story of my mother. I was certainly not expecting that.

"I'm sorry. That was a lot to take in." My dad said.

"No no, that's fine. Thank you. For telling me everything, as it was. It feels great to finally know the truth." I replied, sitting up. "Thanks for not giving up on me."

"Oh I knew I couldn't." My dad responded, pulling me into a tight hug.

"You, uh, want to get changed out of that?" He said, releasing me.

"Yes please." I said, getting out of the bed. My dad held my hand and we made our way out of the room. Bones was standing in the hallway, staring at us.

"Come on Bones, we have some shopping to do!" My dad said excitedly.

Bones rolled his eyes. "Dammit man, I'm a doctor not a fashion consultant."

"I'll help you pick out an outfit." I commented. He looked like he was ready to bang his head against the wall. This was going to be so much fun.
