Looking up and out the front windsheild, I am able to notice where this cousin of mine has forced me to come to. The building seems to be one of those shopping centers, like where all the different stores connect. I'm excited for only a second, thinking we might be somewhere interesting, but I soon realize it is only a place to buy phones.
“We’re here!” Macy cheerfully says next to me before cutting off the engine.
“Fun…” I pretend to be happy for her benefit.
“The At&t store? Really, Mace?” She is already out of the car and a few steps in front of me, so I take a deep breath before following.
“Yeah, I need a new phone after mine got stolen a couple nights ago and wanted company, so welcome company!” She looks at me with a stupid smile on her face. Ugh, I knew it would be something dumb like this. “Oh come on. It isn’t thaaaat bad.”
I let out a chuckle because she is just so insane.
“Whatever you say.”
She opens the door and allows me to go in first.
“Hi! Welcome to the AT&T store. Can I help you find anything?” I search around in the sea of cell phones, wondering where the all too chipper voice is coming from. I soon notice it's from the only male worker near the back of the building.
“Actually, yes! My cousin is tr…” I start to speak, but Macy takes over.
“I’m looking for a new phone!” She giggles at the end as she sees the employee come closer. I can tell she thinks he’s cute because she only acts like this when she sees a hot guy. I mean he is considerably good looking considering he has dark brown hair and adorable freckles to match.
Awesome. Now I have to deal with her trying to flirt with him the whole time. As much as I love her, I can’t stand it when she does this. She is always trying to find a new toy to play with then just leave behind in a couple weeks. I honestly don’t know how she does it. I could never do that to a guy because I am much more into having a legit relationship.
Granted, I haven’t had many, but that’s just because most guys I know are complete jerks. Plus, I just broke up with my boyfriend, hence me coming all the way to Connecticut from Australia.
Yes, I live in Australia. My parents, two brothers, and I moved there when I was fifteen because of my mom’s job. Typical reason, right? Well it happened, but I used to live here in Connecticut since that is where my parents are originally from, and all my aunts, uncles, and cousins live here for the most part.
“Rachel?” My cousin’s voice snaps me back.
“Yeah?” I question her.
“You were just staring at the wall. I was making sure you were alright!”
“Oh yeah, I was just thinking,” I tell her as I turn to walk away and pretend to look at some phones. I know leaving her on the other side of the store will be more beneficial for me and my sanity.
I can already tell that Macy has forgotten about me and goes back to flirting with the guy who’s helping her. She is obviously more into trying to hook up with him than actually getting a phone at this point. I don’t really care because I just want to go back home and climb back into bed.
Noticing a phone that appears to me kind of cool, I pick it up off it's stand to look at it closer. I have no intention in buying it, but I have to entertain myself somehow.
“Can I help you?” A deep voice asks, startling me because I didn't even hear the guy come up next to me.
“Oh, no. I’m just looking,” I say while trying to avoid eye contact.
