Rachel's POV--
My heart literally dropped after my dad told me what had happened back home. I don't think I would have ever expected this to happen to anyone in my family, and the fact that it's my brother makes this seem even more like a nightmare. No one would have ever guessed that he would be the one to get into a motorcycle accident.
"Is there any way I could come home for three or four weeks? I can't just sit here all the way on the other side of the world while my brother is in the hospital," My voice begins to crack as the tears well up in my eyes. I have been trying to keep them back, but the longer my dad and I talk on the phone, the harder it becomes.
"Rachel, it's already June and you come home in August. I think it'll be okay if you wait until then to come home. Greg will under-"
"No. He won't understand because how would you feel if you this happened to you, and one of your closest relative didn't come back for you? Dad, I have to come home," I feel Asher come up behind me and wrap his arms around my waist. The comfort of his arms only makes this situation just slightly easier to handle.
"I guess I can see what your mother and I can do, but I'm not promising anything. I will call you with updates. We are off to see Greg now as well, so keep him in your prayers. I love you, sweetie."
"All right. I love you too, dad. Tell mom and the boys that I love them as well. Bye," With that he and I hang up, and there's nothing holding back my tears now.
Asher quickly turns me around, making it where my face is now buried into his chest. I would feel bad that my tears are starting to soak his shirt, but I don't think he really minds. He and I just stand there in silence as he rubs my back with the palm of my hand and I continue to cry.
"It's going to be okay," his voice muffled by my hair before he kisses the top of my head. "I'm here for you, always."
"T-thank you. I j-just really h-hate th-this," I say, stuttering.
"Shh, there's no need to talk right now," Asher wraps his arms tighter around me and begins to sway back and forth almost as if we were dancing.
----------------------
"I can't believe that you're leaving for almost a whole month. Are you sure I can't come with you?" Asher opens the passenger side door of his truck for me, before allowing me to climb inside.
"You know I have to, but don't think that I won't miss you when I'm gone," I say as he slides into his seat.
"Yeah I know. It's just a couple days ago that you and I started to take this further and now you're leaving. It's weird." The engine comes to life as he turns the key in the ignition.
My dad ended up convincing my mom into buying me a ticket for a red eye flight to fly back home. It didn't even take that long for him to do so either because I swear I got an email with the boarding pass and ticket information only a couple hours after getting off the phone with my dad, What's weird is that actually seems like the easy part now. I am off to Macy's place at the moment to get a few of my things and to let her know what's going on, and who knows what could happen while I'm over there.
"Do you think she's even going to be there?" Asher speaks up after driving for about ten minutes of complete silence between the two of us. I don't think the radio has even been on this whole time.
"I'm betting no because she usually works at this time. We'll see though. Oh speaking of work...should I even attempt to get time off for this long since I have essentially only been working there for a day?"
"Um, I honestly don't think that they are going to love hearing it, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to try. You might as well. This is a family emergency you have, so maybe they can do that thing where they let you have the time off and promise to keep the job for you when you get back...?"
My eyes close in reaction to stressful this is all becoming for me. What makes it worse is that I feel the truck come to a stop, and when I open my eyes, I see Macy's car sitting in front of us. Great. Just great.
"Looks like the she-devil's here. Let's hope she doesn't try to attack me again. I kind of like my hair not being pulled out," Before getting out, I hear Asher faintly laugh at me. "It's not funny. Just try to bakc me up this time, okay?"
"I would be more than happy to, babe."
He rushes over to me and softly kisses the top of my head. I'm glad I'm at least wanted by somebody because I know for a fact the blonde inside isn't too fond of me right now. Unlocking the front door, I notice something slightly off. The house is really quiet, which is not normal what-so-ever. There's not even music coming from Macy's room, and there is almost always music on when Macy's home.
"Guess she's actually not here," Asher whispers as if the wrong person is going to hear him, then plops himself on the couch.
"Yeah...just make sure you're comfortable." He looks up at me with a small smile because he knows I'm being sarcastic, and I can't help but smile back at him. "I'm just going to get a few things from upstairs. I'll be quick since she isn't here."
"Sounds good. I will stay here and be your watch dog," He stares straight at the front door, acting like he's really just going to sit there and watch it. I have full confidence to bet that as soon as I walk away, he's going to turn on the television.
With my back turned, he does exactly what I thought. Laughing to myself, I begin to make my way up to the bedroom. I only plan on taking a couple necessities since I am going back home which is where most of my stuff is anyways. The amount I need to take back should just be less enough to be considered a carry on, meaning I don't have to pay a ridiculous amount to have my bag checked at the airport.
In my head, I start to make a mental list of the items I need to make sure I get. There's my toothbrush, shoes, all my face cleaners, my make up, and of course my favorite t-shirts. Just when I am about to go through my list one more time, something breaks my thoughts instantly, and scares the shit out of me as well.
"Rachel?" A soft voice says, coming from the bedroom.
Long time, no talk...? read...? update...? Eh whatever! Point is that I'm sorry for the long wait for the update! I have just not been that inspired to write this anymore. I'm trying to get back into...slowly but surely!
I hope everyone liked this chapter though! If you did, be sure to vote, comment, and even share. It means SO much to me when I see people enjoying what I write. Even just having one vote makes my day because I know that someone is reading this and liking what they see. :)
Have a great rest of the weekend, and happy Monday if it's already Monday where you live!
