chapter 19 part 2

The morning light slipped through my drapes as I straghtned  the last section of hair. I  began starting my make up as Cody walked out of the guest bathroom shaking out his wet hair. 

"like you need that" He mumbled  sarcastically

I ignored him  as I swiped on my foundation. My mom came in running a diamond earing through her ear lobe. 

"Mel, Your grandmother called and said we have to be there by noon to help with dinner and stuff"

I nodded knowingly. Cody sat on my bed "Good morning, Abby" He said softly 

"Good morning sweet heart" She said back to Cody. "Youre okay with an early dinner?"

"Yes ma'am" He said meeting my gaze in the mirror.

I shot him a small smile.

The car ride was accompined by michael Buble and Nat king Cole Holiday Music. As we drove through silverton I watched the farm fields fly by. Cody laced his fingers with mine. With my free hand I adjusted the button on my peacoat.

I slid out of the car and walked up to the front door with my arm laced on to codys. I hugged him closly as we braced the cold breeze.

"Melaine!"My grandmother hugged me forcing me to release cody.

"Hello grandma" I said backing up and grabbing cody again.

"You must be Cody" She said taking a look at him. "Even more handsome in person" She smiled 

"Thank you, Its a pleasure meeting you" He said.

As we relaxed I sat on the couch in the seperate room from the adults. Cody sat next to me with his hands in his lap watching the football game on the tv. I rubbed his chest as I rested my head on his shoulder. He looked over at me. his breath tickling my cheek. I cracked a slight smile.  As he leaned in for a kiss we were interrupted my uncle.

"Melaine your mom wants you"

I groaned sitting up pulling cody along with me.

"So melaine I hear you might be getting signed to a reccord label? Thats huge!"

I beamed proudley "Yes, I have been meeting with a producer down in Los Angeles, In december he will have the final decision made."

"Shes so independent" My mom said "We havent had anything to do with it"

My family looked at me suprised "You never told your parents about the meetings?"

"No, I did, Its just I have been taking care of it myself. Scooter didnt want to mention anything until he had made a decision. They wil come to LA with me in December."

"I see," My grandma remarked "And you have been helping her with this?" She asked cody.

"Yeah, I helped her record a cover of one of my early songs and I sent it to my manager and things just kicked off from there. She has been doing th rest herself" He gazed at me proudly.

The whole flame just watched my reaction.

"Well I just wanted to say I am so proud of you" My uncle said.

"and I as well" his wife chimed in

"Thank you" I said squeezing codys hand a little tighter.

Dinner was ready by 4:00 . I sat myself next to Cody and dished up my food. I mindlessly stirred my potatoes and gravey to a mush as the adults talked about there lifes. I glanced at Cody who was chcukling while sipping his water.

"There isnt much to do on the coast, but it was everything"

"Are you homesick?" My little cousin tallie asked him.

He smiled at her kindly "Yes"

She wrapped her small hand around his fingers "You can live with melaine, maybes you wont be sick then?"

Everyone giggled quietly.

"Thats a good idea, sweetie" He said 

She smiled brightly returning to shoveling peaches in her mouth.

After dinner . Cody and I returned to the sepertate living room.

"So um.. I have to catch my flight at 10:00 tonight"

I nodded swallowing hard. I didnt want him to leave so soon. "Alright" I forced myself to say.

"Come here" He motioned me over and pulled me onto his lap. "Im sorry"

"Its-its alright" I said 

"Ill see you in December"

I shook my head. " I have to return right after"

He took my hands and played with my fingers. "Oh" He said low

After that we sat in silence as it became dark outside.

I fell asleep at 7:30 My head was in his lap. 

at 8:00 I woke with tallie gazing at me threw her big blue eyes. I stretched and sat up. Cody was still asleep.

"Youre leaving! " She said loudly causin Cody to open his eyes.

I giggled "Thank you tallie" 

"Your welcome, Mel Mel"

I stood up running my fingers through my hair. Sleepily Cody mimiced me

After all the goodbyes  I made my way to the car.

The drive home I pressed my forhead against the cold window, Cody rubbed my thigh. I ddint look at him until we got to the airport. I walked with him through security . We waited in the terminal once they started boarding first class he pulled me up. His lips hit mine. I balled up his tshirt in my fist as he kissed me softly. I pulled away the familierty in his eyes had finally returned. He kissed me one last time before disappapearing into the crowd.
