Chapter 8

Madeline's POV

Once Chris left a nurse came in and gave me a warm smile.

"Hey sweetie, was that your dad in here a few minutes ago?" she asked getting something set up on the shelf thing in my room.

"I guess. He adopted me a few days ago," I responded.

"That's great! Alrighty sweetheart, I've got to give you a shot with some antibiotics ok?" she said.

"Is it going to hurt me," I asked a bit scared.

"Only for a minute, but I won't leave you till it feels better," she said.

I nodded.

"Go ahead and just look right at that picture on the wall and I'll be done in a jiffy."

I did as she said. It really hurt and I started to cry.

"It hurts," I cried.

"Don't cry, look I'm all done."

I looked back at her and she put the band-aid on.

"So, what do you like to talk about?"

"I don't know. I haven't had very many people to talk to in a very long time," I said.

"Oh? I sorry hun, we don't have to talk if you don't want to," she said.

"No, I want to talk. Um, what is your name?"

"I'm Emily. What about you?" 

"Madeline."

"Beautiful," she said and we both laughed.

Chris's POV

After shooting a drove instantly back to the hospital to see Maddie.

When I got to her room I heard laughing. I quietly opened the door and saw Madeline and a young nurse talking and laughing. 

"So cutie. Do you like Chris," the nurse asked.

"I do. I'm excited to live with him," Maddie said.

"I'm glad," she smiled.

I cleared my throat coming further into the room. The nurse looked completely flustered and stood up instantly.

"I'm so sorry sir, we lost track of time," she said.

"It's really ok Miss," I said.

"Bye Emily," Madeline said.

Emily winked and left.

"Did you have fun while I was gone," I asked sitting down.

"I did. But I'm a bit tired," she said.

"I bet it's already 7:30. Did that nurse stay with you the whole time?" I said. 

"Yes, but she had to give me lots of shots of antibiotics," she said.

"Oh? Well kid, get some sleep, you've had a long day. All be here when you wake up." 

"Goodnight Chris."

"Night Maddie."
