Hello!
I’m sure most of you have guessed it right from the start that she’s not really unpretty. (:
The story is told in present tense/first person because “Each day I go to therapy and tell my doctor how it happened just like it was really happening.”
She has BDD (Body Dismorphic Disorder).
It’s an illness wherein people affected by this are bothered too much by simple things normal people would have ignored.
People with BDD tend to make a big deal out of simple things. It’s not only the face that people with BDD obsess about. It can be the face, the body or both.
They start off to notice something, the shape of their eyes for example and start to do things to fix it.
When they are not satisfied they start to feel depressed and miserable and disconnect themselves from others. Thus, people with BDD also get affected by OCD and become depressive as well.
This here is a work of fiction; don’t think everyone with BDD has the tendency to operate on their face themselves (but it might be possible). In this case, I may have exaggerated a bit and made her into some crazy person but I hope I have somehow captured how most people feel about themselves, minus the super depressive, emotional, suicidal stuff. I hope no one goes through anything like this.
And I actually intended page 21 to be the ending but I wrote two more pages, they're just sort of an epilogue, (hence the fast forward mode.hhe.) I was unsure if I should stick to p21 or p23 so I asked some of you and got different answers so I thought, what the hell, I'll give them what they want. hehe
So anyway,
We did it! We finished a story! Woohoo!
To the ones that I have known and those who silently read, Thank You for reading Unpretty until the last page.
Thanks to you who waited patiently and never left despite the long intervals in updates.
Thank You for the feedbacks, the suggestions, the comments and the support.
I really can’t thank you all enough for everything. You are all so amazing, I can’t believe you actually read Unpretty. Haha.
And sorry that every page was too short, that it was vague, that it has too many mistakes. Thank You because you still read it despite its many faults.
This is cliche but I hope you feel and appreciate how beautiful you are and that there is always something to be thankful for.
You are beautiful. We are beautiful. Kill anyone who says we are not. (:
Cheerios!
Love,
Dee
