Lucky

It had been five days since my encounter with that Victor kid and his older brother. It was a sunday today, I was currently getting ready for church. Looking back, I realised I had seen Victor a couple of times, he lived around the district but his older brother, I had never seen before.

Strange...

Sighing, I looked at the girl staring back at me in the mirror, she was wearing a long sleeved black chiffon blouse, pink flared knee length skirt and a pair of nude pointy toe heels. I hurriedly applied my makeup which included my maskara, lip gloss and powder. I grabbed my purse when I heard It outside - a thunder.

I briskly walked out of my room, It was awfully quiet, I walked down the stairs and looked around.

"Dad?" I really didn't want to believe they had left me. "Bukky?"

I dropped my purse on the dinning table and went into the kitchen but found nobody.

Why did I even check the kitchen? What would they be doing there on a sunday morning?

After checking almost everywhere, I went outside to the security house.

"Caesar?" I called after a few knocks on the door. Not too long after, the door opened and Caesar walked out, clasping his hands together in front of him.

"Good morning, Miss Lucky. What can I do for you?" He asked with a warm smile on his face, crinkles appeared at the sides of his eyes.

"Good morning, Caesar. Uhm, well I can't find my parents or sister... " I started off, feeling a bit awkward.

"They left a few minutes ago, your father said something about being late and that you would find your way to church. But of course Mrs Ayo disagreed initial-"

There was a rumbling sound again, and I looked up to see the sun had gone into hiding and the sky had dimmed, It was about to rain.

"It's fine, Cesar. That would be all, thank you." I said, walking away.

"If you like, I could walk with you until you get a taxi." He offered.

"No, It's fine."

I went back inside to grab my purse from the dinning table but then my phone rang. I fished It out, my heartbeat accelerated when I saw the caller.

Daddy Dearest...

"He-hello?" I stuttered.

"Lucky?" He called, sounding calm and I breathed deeply. "where are you?"

"I'm-in-in, at home."

"Listen to me, baby girl. If I don't see you in church today, I will pull every single one of your hair out with my hands and -"

"I'll be there." I said through gritted teeth.

"Child?"

"father..."

"Se nkan ti mo so ye e? (Did you understand what I said?)" He asked in Yoruba.

"yes." I replied.

"yes what?" He snapped, I could picture the snarl on his face.

"yes, sir."I said sternly through gritted teeth.

I stopped walking and took off my shoes, gathering them in one hand, I continued walking bare footed. As if this wasn't bad, I heard the rumbling sound again and then It immediately started raining.
