Lucky
A good number of students were already inside the auditorium, some seated, some were leaning up against the wall, chattering amongst themselves, some were even chasing each other around. I massaged my temple as I searched for a familiar face.
"Hey, Luckygirl!" TJ's voice filled my ears and I scanned the area for him. "Over here!"
When my eyes landed on them, I began making my way to them. TJ and Naomi were seated at the end of the row, Best sat slouched two seats away from them. Best lifted his gaze from his phone, saw me approaching and sat up. I noticed he was dressed in his sportwear – a pair of red short joggers and grey oversized t-shirt with the school's logo. I was used to seeing TJ clad in the sportwear, but Best I had never seen.
I didn't want my rear end up close to Best's face so I faced him as I tried to sidle across to Naomi.
"Abeg, wait." Best suddenly rose up and grabbed my elbows. "The load you carry for back go jam person head." He said, referring to the people on the row before ours.
Naomi and TJ suddenly burst into laughter, slapping each other as they laughed. I watched the smug smile on Best's features and my right eye twitched in annoyance.
"Omoh! That one na straight concussion." TJ howled. Naomi's laughter was so boisterous, it climbed an octave, now sounding like a squeal.
Chai, I yaff suffered....
"I don't blame you people..." I mumbled.
Naomi's laughter faded into chuckles. "Best, let her face you then."
"Ehn? No abeg... I no wan die yet." Best gently pushed me backwards, till we were out of the row of chairs, he then ushered me in.
My cheeks heated up, I suddenly remembered what Abel had said to me a few minutes ago. "Ode! (stupid) you think I will answer you?" I hissed, slumping down next to Naomi who was still laughing, she laughed and leaned against me, taunting me. "Gettat (get out), lemme."
This only made my friends laugh. To distract myself, I turned and saw Abel sitting next to Bisola a few rows behind ours. I suddenly felt a pang of envy and jealousy, watching them, I wanted to be the one sitting next to him. I would never really understand their relationship, I couldn't help but wonder if they still shagged or if it was now an innocent friendship.
Bisola was conversing with Israel who sat by her left, the twinkle in his eyes as he watched her was hard to miss, they both had chemistry – that quenched my jealousy.
What is wrong with me? Why would I be jealous? It's not like I like the fella or anything...
Yeah, right...
