Two weeks later...

Lucky

"Jun Pyo looks like TJ, so cute... Ahh TJ, that fine bo..."

I froze and turned, taking my eyes away from the flat screen TV. Naomi and I were at Linda's, watching boys over flower. After realising we had nothing to do or nowhere to go, the three of us agreed to hang out at Linda's. We were really just a couple of antisocial girls. I hardly went out – I mean like really going out – It was the same with Linda. And Naomi, I learned she was previously in an all girls boarding school but she had gotten herself expelled by pummeling one of the students. Apparently, It wasn't the first time, Linda said she had always caused trouble. Her father enrolled her in Maria Grace last year.

I was now staring at Naomi, somewhat shocked by her outburst, she wasn't even looking at me, she seemed to be focused on the TV, watching Jun Pyo carry a wounded Jan Di in his arms.

Linda and I exchanged glances.

"Naomi?" Linda called.

"ehn?" She replied.

"did you say something?" Linda asked, trying to get her to say it again even though we had both heard her.

"Nope." She said popping the 'p' as she snatched the pop-corn bowl from my lap.

"Uhm — but you -" This time I was the one to talk but Naomi didn't let me finish.

"Oh... Oh.. Oh... What is this na? Lemme watch this thing, abeg. (please.)"

"hmmm, abeg wetin sef? You never watch am before? (What is it? Haven't you seen it before?)" Linda hissed and rolled her eyes. Naomi ignored her.

I didn't quite understand what had just happened, she had just blurted out her feelings for TJ and I didn't think she realised it. No, she had to have known what she did, she was probably just trying to cover her slip up. I shrugged and continued watching the Korean drama, knowing that if she ever wanted to talk about It she would tell us.

After that day, whilst I was getting ready for school in my room of course, the door flew open and my sister stood before the threshold.

"Lucky, come on! Mum's waiting." Bukky said.

"Eh, I thought Dad was taking us?" I asked.

"Apparently, he's travelling to Lagos. He already left to catch his flight." Bukky answered with a huff.

"Oh, gimme a minute then." I replied.

Bukky eyed me whilst pressing her lips together. "you're already dressed, what have you got to do?"

I looked down and realised she was right, I was already dressed. So I grabbed my bag and motioned for her to leave before following her.

A few hours later, I was already in school, It was break time and I was sitting outside on a long bench, trying to read a book but I just couldn't concentrate. It was a sunny day, I had even taken off my blazer. The bench was under a shady tree, It was just me and two boys sitting on the bench. The boys were two grades below me and they were arguing over an assignment their teacher had given them, I mentally rolled my eyes at them. The argument had escalated to the point where one of them was now swearing (not cussing) to God that he had gotten his right even though the teacher had failed him. I shook my head and slowly closed my book, I got up and walked away.
